When I took the bus yesterday the bus driver had the radio on, but I’m not sure which channel it was. Anyway a news reporter talked about conflicts all around the world. Mali, Burkina Faso and Nigeria for example face attacks on villages and even ordinary schools by militant groups, forced marriage between children, forced prostitution, but also bad harvest due to climate change.

This week the German newspaper ‘Suedwestpresse’ had positive as well as negative news alike:
The good news is that two tourists who were held hostage in Mali now are free. The bad news is that at least 29 Malian soldiers have been killed in an attack on an army base in the country’s Northeast, according to the armed forces. There was now immediate claim of responsibility for the latter attack, the deadliest against the Malian army this year, in the town of Tarkint, north of the city of Gao.

The Roman-Catholic aid-organization ‘missio’ says in their latest newsletter that fanatic Islamists from Niger and Mali have repeatedly launched attacks on villages in Burkina Faso since the end of 2019. After getting to Mali by illegal means terrorists either attempted to kill or remove people from their villages just because these villagers didn’t have the same political or religious opinion. In at least one case they even attacked an entire village – killing people – just because the citizens were Roman-Catholic. From these villages come many refugees. On the property of its parishes the Roman-Catholic Diocese of Ouahigouya has established many provisory refugee camps and of course the aid-organization ‘missio’ provides them with as much food, medicine, sanitary stuff and clothes as possible, but still donations to these parishes in Burkina Faso and their provisory camps would be useful.

‘Tagesschau’ says that in Mali a village belonging to an ethnic minority called ‘Dogon’ was attacked last night. No less than 100 people were killed, houses were set on fire – which presumable burned some people and animals alive and made some suffocate – and to destroy even the survivors even much of their livestock was killed. They presume that an ethnic group called ‘Fulba’ did this to them, because in this region conflicts between these two ethnic minorities are quite common.
