My comment from March 10th somehow seems to have vanished: Last Friday my best friend and I went shopping at “H&M” in Tübingen and…two things:
The first thing is I saw a sign informing customers that this shop actually supports projects provided by “UNICEF” financially. How much depends on the clothes sold by “H&M” in Tübingen.
Secondly I saw a beautiful, pink jumper there which I’d have loved to buy. Alas I discovered it was made in China where workers aren’t exactly treated fairly. When my friend wanted to buy something and found out it was made in Sri Lanka, she – as she knew about my knowledge of developing countries – asked me about the situation of cloth factory workers in Sri Lanka. When I told her that I didn’t know about any bad treatment of cloth factory workers – except for low payment judging by German standards – she decided to buy it.

Considering that July 31st is the “International Day of the Ranger”: Sri Lanka: According to “Tierschutz Euskirchen” there’s a so-called elephant-orphanage in Pinnawala (Sri Lanka) which is used as a tourist attraction where people even can ride elephants that have outgrown a certain age for money. Said tourists seem to ignore the huge scars on the thick skin of these animals or the fact that many of them are injured otherwise or malnourished. They can’t possibly be aware of the fact that each year in Sri Lanka’s guarded wildlife sanctuaries a remarkable number of elephant-calves just disappears getting snatched away either. Tourists are told that the mothers of these elephants either died or rejected their babies, but the high number of missing baby-elephants from sanctuaries would make you think otherwise even though there are no proves.

I think you should visit these two websites of those organisations.

Yes, I agree! As a former teacher of mine once said, you should try to accomplish your political aims by becoming politically active, but if you’ve tried without success you still have enough time to mourn later.

I doubt we’ll be able to save all of these rainforests, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t even try.
Even if we can save only a part of them, it would be at least better than nothing.
On the other hand so many unexplainable and wonderful things already have happened that you can’t really say what’s possible and what’s not.

I have never been there,-though I’d like to do that one day-but you are right saying that I’m interested in areas like that. There are so many different interesting specimens living there.
