Michelle

Tyson:  Hey Michelle. What’s goin’ on?

Michelle:  Not much. What are you up to?

Tyson:  Oh, nothin’ much. Uh… what are you doing this weekend?

Michelle:  This weekend… I don’t know. I haven’t really decided yet.

Tyson:  Well, I was thinking about going snowboarding this weekend.

Michelle:  Snowboarding? That sounds pretty cool.

Tyson:  Yeah, it’s totally cool. Do you want to go?

Michelle:  Ah, me? I’ve never snowboarded before. I don’t know. Um…

Tyson:  It’s no big deal. I can totally teach you.

Michelle:  Well, who’s all going?

Tyson:  Um, well my buddy Jake and his girlfriend, and you know, we’re thinking about, you know, staying the weekend up there at his mom’s place and…

Michelle:  So, we’d, we’d be staying overnight then?

Tyson:  Yeah. Is that a problem?

Michelle:  Well, um, I don’t know. I’ve never really been snowboarding before and I… probably not this weekend. Um… but why don’t you give me your phone number and, and uh, I’ll call you if plans happen to change.

Tyson:  Totally cool. We can do something some, you know, some other time, and we’ll hook up!

Discussion

Tyson seems to be a nice guy. Maybe Michelle would go out with him if he asked her to go to lunch, but staying the night with him sounds like too much for her. You can tell by the was she’s talking that she is a little nervous about going. There is a lot of “um” and “you know” in this conversation. They are very real. Most people speak like this naturally and it’s good to get used to hearing it. Be careful, it’s contagious! Better luck next time, Tyson!—Doc
