If you’re looking for a new sport to play, we’ve got a good idea for you. Have you ever heard of broom ball? Can you guess what it is?
It’s just like hockey. The difference is that you wear tennis shoes instead of skates, use a broom instead of a stick, and a plastic ball instead of a puck.
It’s a lot of fun to do with a big group of people. Nedra and her boyfriend Rick invited their friends to play. Here she talks to Migs about it.

Miguel: So how was your broom ball thing last week?
Nedra: It was pretty cool. Everyone had a good time.
Miguel: Can you tell me something more about it? Why was it… why was it cool?
Nedra: Um, because we got to pretend we were little kids again and go on the ice and, uh, hit a ball around.
Miguel: So broomball is what exactly? It’s kind of like hockey?
Nedra: Yeah, only use brooms and, um, it’s a plastic ball you hit around on the ice. You don’t have to wear skates either.
Miguel: Oh, you’re not wearing skates? So just you’re wearing tennis shoes?
Nedra: Exactly.
Miguel: So don’t you slip and fall a lot?
Nedra: Oh yeah. You sure do.
Miguel: Does it hurt?
Nedra: Yeah I think Tanis was saying she still has bruises.
Miguel: Wow. Well, at first I thought I was sad that I missed it but I would not be happy to be covered with bumps and bruises.
Nedra: Yeah, um, I didn’t get hurt too bad but I, I, knew better.
Miguel: So did you score a lot of goals?
Nedra: No, I’m not that good!

So what do you think? Does broom ball sound like fun? Nedra thought it was, but Migs was a little worried about getting hurt.
It’s not too easy to find an activity that 10-30 people can do as a group. If you have an ice rink near you, call up some friends and try it out!
