Scientists have found some surprising connections between certain scents and people’s feelings. The smell of lemon, for instance, makes us feel healthier. Lavender calms us, while eucalyptus makes us feel more awake.

For years, perfume makers have been trying to find the magic combination of scents that will make their customers feel beautiful and attractive. But for some, no perfume will ever be anything but stinky.

Marni can’t stand perfume. Hear Amy try to convince her that perfume is sexy, not stinky.

Amy:  Do you like this new perfume, Marni? Here, smell.

Marni:  No. I have to be really honest with you, I really dislike perfume and cologne. I just…I just think it’s so overwhelming.

Amy:  Really? But you can get subtle perfume that’s just a light scent. I mean, I don’t know, personally, I think cologne on guys is just so sexy.

Marni:  Oh, gosh, I think it just stinks. I mean there’s nothing worse than being in an elevator or sitting on the bus or something, and someone sits next to you with this, you know, cloud of cologne or perfume. It’s just so overwhelming. It makes me feel sick.

Amy:  But what about those classic scents like Chanel Number 5? Don’t they just remind you of a classy, older lady?

Marni:  I don’t know, I keep thinking, like, stinky, overwhelming, irritating. Kinda makes my eyes water.

Amy:  Does it give you a headache?

Marni:  It does sometimes give me a headache if it’s too overpowering. I can’t stand it.

Amy:  Well, I think putting on a couple sprays of perfume for a date or something is just that extra little fun thing you can do to make it more special. But I guess I know from now on not to wear perfume around you.

Marni:  I would really appreciate it. Thank you.

Amy just bought a new perfume. She asks Marni to smell it. But Marni doesn’t like perfume. She thinks it is stinky, overwhelming and irritating.

Amy says that perfume can be subtle and classy. She especially likes classic scents like Chanel Number 5. She likes it when guys wear cologne, and she likes to wear perfume when she goes on dates.

Do you like to wear perfume? Do you like it when other people wear perfume and cologne, or do you find it too overwhelming?

I like perfume and flowers.
Because , a person’s perfume tells more about him/her than his/her handwriting.

But , i think It’s not a good idea to wear perfume in an elevator or sitting on the bus .Because perfume is a smell that  used to drown a worse one.

“I have also noticed that each city  has a particular   odor , California is one of them” -Julito.

Very interesting, this is a first, I had to comment and ask: what does California smell like? the only reason I ask this is because I thought about it not long ago.I imagine maybe it would smell  like Palm trees, or burning plastic and sylicon given all the  ‘plastic’ surgeries going on there.

Rule of thumb here: If you can smell the perfume you’re wearing its most likely going to be unbearable to someone else. It’s all about finding the right balance. One common mistake people make is to go for the latest celebrity fragrances or relatively expensive brands just to make some kind of statement, just to be in. In my opinion there’s not a universal “smell good” or “one scent- fits-all”perfume/cologne(it’s not like you’re buying a pair of socks here). Just because X cologne smells good on Y, doesn’t mean that it’s going to be the same on Z. Many factors can affect the scent of a perfume, body type (dry skin, oily skin), perspiration, being a smoker or not, even climate, having a poodle or Terrier as pet (I made this one up). Some people go so far as to say that perfume can alter their moods and boost up confidence, make them look slimmer (really? Different strokes for different folks I guess):) and so forth.

On a more personal note, I usually wear a cologne called “Three Little Pigs” hehe! It smells like mud with a little hint of …. Of freshly slaughtered pork meat. I know I know you’re thinking “who in the world would wear such atrocious mixture?” well I admit I was a little iffy about trying it on at first, but it grew on me and I get nothing but compliments about it.

I will sum up by saying that buying the right fragrance should be a   personal choice based on others’ tolerance and reaction. Well you can’t make everybody happy, some people are just strictly allergic to scents, and it might even be you. Maybe you don’t need to wear any.

My roommate is such a character (he will probably  going to kill me if he finds out that I’m posting this or if he’s overlooking my shoulder right now) he makes his own cologne. He’ll take some rags damp it with lukewarm water then spray some Lysol (air freshener) on it, dab it around his neck and under his armpits, then he’s ready to roll. I just had to put it out there, huh? :-)

Dear Kotlesya,  Thank you for your comment , now i know that  i wasn´t wrong about it.

i live in Buenos Aires  ,  people here  walk the dogs  everyday  and  most of the handlers don´t scoop-up  the poop.  A friend of mine visiting from the US told me  about the foul odor of the city , i was so embarrassed  on hearing this , but it is a fact  , i hope that dog ownwers be more conscious  about it.

Hi, Julito I agree with you 100% that the different scents are saved in our memory. Sometimes, when I recollect some events of my life I also “feel” the scent of it. I absoluetly agree that each city has its own odor.

The cities I have visited were special by their odor, indeed and I still remember these odors. They are not describable, but they are in our mind.

Hi kotlesya,   i am just curious  , what is your favourite perfume ?  . In many cases scents, odors  triggers in us  memories  of  the past associated  with our life  at that   time. I have also noticed that each city  has a particular   odor , California is one of them

On my opinion, perfume is the last detail to your image. The perfume should be qualitative and never cheap. But sometimes even the expensive perfume can’t stay for long on your body and sometimes it had the  vulgar scent. I respect and always use the perfume in my life.  I will never forget the reaction I had, smelling the wonderful fragrance of the perfume in the perfume shop. The scent had all features I like to smell. Seems to be that smell was mine, because it had literally  “fascinated” me. I wanted to smell it non-stop. The fragrance was extremely  posh. Using and testing many kinds of perfumes before, I could never compare them all with that one. It was wonderful!!! I’m happy that I have found my scent of perfume at long last. Despite this,  I prefer to change my prime perfume to the other perfume in the same style of the scent from time to time.

Some people have attractive side in their personality. It is not necessary to put perfume in order to be attractive in my opinion.
