For the third and final time, Christian Bale is Batman. The story picks up eight years after The Dark Knight, and finds Batman fighting a terrorist to save the city that had turned against him.

Critics and audiences love this new series of Batman movies. Sadly, the films have not been without tragedy. Actor Heath Ledger died while shooting the last film. He was posthumously awarded an Oscar for his performance as the Joker.

When The Dark Knight Rises was released, people around the world were excited to see the movie as soon as they could. But excitement quickly turned to horror at one theater in Colorado when a man shot at the audience and killed 12 people.

Listen to Marni and Amy discuss The Dark Knight Rises and dark events that have arisen around it.

Marni:  I have really been curious about the new Batman film, The Dark Knight Rises. But I have to say, I was so excited to go see it, and then that horrible, tragic shooting in Colorado occurred, and then I just couldn’t bring myself to go see it. I couldn’t separate the two.

Amy:  I know what you mean. I did see it, but the shooting was definitely on my mind during the film. And it is a little strange because there’s so much violence in the film, too, that it definitely makes you think about the shooting even more.

Marni:  It definitely made us have the conversation as a nation about violence, and is there too much violence in the movies? Is that affecting people? But trying to separate it, you know, since you’ve seen it now, this is a series, this is the last Batman movie in this series. Do you think that this reboot, this whole new Dark Knight, was a success?

Amy:  I do. I mean, I think the actors that they got were all great. Like Christian Bale I think is the best Batman that we’ve had in years.

Marni:  Interesting, ‘cause we’ve had a lot.

Amy:  Yeah, we have. And Catwoman makes an appearance in the new movie. Anne Hathaway plays her, and she’s great. I love the tension between Catwoman and Batman. And Robin also makes an appearance in this last movie, and his character is also great.

Marni:  Wow, I did not know that. So it sounds like if you can, you know, just go and really try and enjoy the film. It’s a good superhero movie.

Amy:  It definitely is.

Marni had wanted to see The Dark Knight Rises. But after a shooting took place in Colorado during the film, she felt uncomfortable about seeing the movie.

Amy says she can understand Marni’s feelings, although she did see the movie. The shooting was on her mind during the film, especially because there were many scenes in it involving gun violence. Marni wonders if there is too much violence in movies or if the violence we see on the screen is affecting people’s behavior.

Despite Amy’s mixed feelings about seeing the movie, she did think it was a good superhero film. She thought all the actors in the movie did a great job. She likes Christian Bale as Batman, and she enjoyed seeing Catwoman and Robin in this movie as well.

Do you think The Dark Knight Rises was a good action movie? In your opinion, is there too much violence in films?

In my opinion films nowadays are using many scenes of violence and also many guns, I agree with Marni that it can affect people’s behavior.

I think directors tried to bring Batman´s real essence back with this movie. It´s an amazing movie. You simply can´t take your eyes out of screen. Years go on and Christian Bale`s made more and more spectators look after his talent. We need more films like this one!

See ya folks.

Konstantin cherta s dva :

You are right : People who were brought up properly can control their animal instincts. That was your point : Many of men from older generation also used to fight with each other or use a slang when they were young.
This is my point  : The new generation is more violence from the older generation ! i mean : in now days  violence is more  than before !!

You know that violence often has lifelong consequences for victims  physical and mental health and social functioning and can slow economic and social development.

Violence, however, is preventable. Evidence shows strong relationships between levels of violence and potentially modifiable factors ( many reasons for violence ) : such as spending a lot of time watching films , poverty, income, the harmful use of alcohol, and the absence of safe, stable, and nurturing relationships between children and parents.

I saw each film from the new trilogy about Batman, including Dark Knight Rises, and in my opinion it is one of the best action movies ever) Christian Bale perfectly fits in the role of Batman.  I haven’t noticed too much violence in that films, there almost weren’t any blood by the way, although there were a lot of fight scenes. Finally, there is no way to stop evil geniuses like those who were shown in that movies except beating them. The important thing is that good triumphs over evil in the end, thanks to courage of main hero, who doesn’t give up even in very difficult situations.

Baset, you said that «Older generation did not believe in the use of violence to solve problem but this generation now believe that violence is the first answer».  I am not agree with you. Young men have a high level of testosterone that affects on their behavior, makes them more aggressive. I don’t mean that ever young man just have to use violence because of this, people who were brought up properly can control their animal instincts. The point is that a lot of men from older generation also used to fight with each other or use a slang when they were young. And when ‘’this generation’’ becomes an adults, violence won’t be the first answer for them as well.

By the way, when I read about cabmen abuse one another on the road in 19-th century and compare with today situation, when boorish behavior on the road is so widespread, I think “Wow, nothing changed” )

Actually i do think there’s too much violence in the movies but i can accept it but what i can’t accept is there’s too much blood and it became normal in these movies disgusting and about the bad luch or the weird things that happen with some movies i once watched a documentary program and they mentioned that some actors got into a car accident and other bad stuff after making a particular movies and for me i don’t believe in such things, maybe it’s a coincidence but it’s not a reasonable truth that’s for sure.

The violent movies is like hockey when you watch. There’s always an element of fighting there and that’s what majority of people like and go watch the game not because of skills but because of fighting! It can’t be changed. Butterfly effect. Pressure of life makes people love that. Life is not easy, lots of pressure at work, laying offs, problems on problems. Not every one can tough it out and move on without imaginary violence, adrenaline pumping. Some people go on the street and pick up a fight and some go to hockey or watch moves with violence and video games in that vein to let the steam out. It’s pretty pshycological thing. If there were no demand for that, an american (the best!!!) cinematography wouldn’t produce them.

The one who made Colorado massacare is mentally sick, it’s just a bad coincidence. And he picked that movie.

I love to see actions movies, but one point is right: Violence motivate violence, and whatever se seed will be the quality we’ll reap.

This is a Biblical principle also: Stop being deceived; God is not to be ridiculed. A person harvests whatever he plants:  The person who sows through human means will harvest decay from human means, but the person who sows in the Spirit will harvest eternal life from the Spirit. Let’s not get tired of doing what is good, for at the right time we will reap a harvest—if we do not give up. (Galatians 6: 7-9).

May God bless you all!

tumbili, I agree with your  opinion about  “Final Destination”. I have seen all series of this movie just on purpose to make my own conclusion about this. “Final Destination” has been created to attract people with its  special effects and of course with the most thrilling theme as death.  I saw and forgot this movie. It did not leave anything in my mind. :/

It would be perfect if there was a law against the shooting and release the movies ( computer games) with violence.

But the problem is in the fact that this is the very profitable business and  huge sums of money matufactures draw out non-stop.

“BREAD and CIRCUSES!!!”  (from Latin: panem et circenses) this need will never die among people.

wannicho  your  words  speak to me ”...with all the mess in my life , i don’t wanna make it worse to watch sth dark , depressing ..”

There are lots of video productions for any taste. It is up to us what we choose to watch. Nobody forces us to see the films with many scenes of violence unless we want to get an adrenaline from the preview of the movies like these.

The majority  went through  the period when the movies  with violence where  something new for us to see (childhood, adolescence). Being  an adult person violence in the movies becomes absolutely not interesting, annoying and boring. We have million facts about the violence in real life and other sad news broadcasting every minute. Why we should dim our difficult life out with  an additional black color like violence scenes?

I deliberately avoid some kinds of news and “harsh” movies.

I’m concerning about the computer games with violence. The assortment of such games is improving day by day. Children and teenagers are literally absorbed with them.  : (

I sincerely hope that movies with violence and the computer games with violence is just a step on the way of the aging. I genuinely believe that new generation will grow up and make its conclusion for benefit of  the  unaggressive, peaceful  style of life.Smile

story behind the scene is really tragic. i think violence is increasing day by day in movies and in real life. which is very dangours for this world. people use to watch these series and get violent psychologically. they behave negatively by applying it in daily rutines. its in our psyche we learn and perceive, what we see. and we keep the traces in our mind which later on move to sub consious and creat a psychopahethic illness in many people. we should strongly protest against these kind of violent things. we have to discourge it in movies and save our world from the disastrous impact on our lives. we should raise our voices for the healthy entertainment to creat healthy minds. come on guys, its about our forcoming nations and new generations. we have to pass them a great universe decorated with the petals of peace and flowers of love for every one.

I also haven’t seen the film “The Dark Knight Rises” but of course I’ve heard of the shooting which took place in Colorado. I think it is very difficult to understand why people do things like this and I can’t. I mean even if he felt bad this wasn’t the fault of this people. Anyway I think there is too much violence in films. Just think of “Final Destination”. There’ve been five movies of this kind in the cinema so far, althought the story is always almost the same. People only watch it because they want to see how people die. I’ve never watched movies like this, and I sure won’t do it in the future. In my opinion it should also be forbidden to have guns at home, because then things like the shooting in Colorado wouln’t happen so often.

I haven’t seen The Dark Knight Rises.

In fact, I don’t like movies where there is violence. Moreover, I never see programs about animals that kill by any reason: either because of hunting or defence. If I accidentally run into such a moment, I switch the channel. The other reason not to see that kind of movies is my memory that doesn’t let me  forget the actions I saw on the screen. It makes me sick.

Baset, you are right. To have the right generation, adults must think about the food for our children’s mind in order to bring up compassionate humans who won’t have a desire to kill, or to torture, or to rape others and enjoy looking at the agony of victims.
