Go Super to Listen Go Super!

Say you’ve gone to visit someone you’re nervous to see. You want to talk to them about getting a job. You’re standing right outside this person’s door. The door is closed. You knock on it. The person opens the door and asks why you’re there. “I’m interested in the job,” you say. “OK,” says your potential new boss. “Come on in.” You take one step, and suddenly, it’s as if you’re a million miles away from where you were standing a moment before. You’ve got your foot in the door.

Of course, many goals we try to achieve in life don’t involve actual doorways. Sometimes a foot in the door takes the form of an opportunity to work on a project in an area you’re interested in. Sometimes it involves taking a class with a professor who’s an expert in your field. Getting a foot in the door is really about getting a first opportunity that might lead to more opportunities in the future.

Brandon Flowers realizes that the existence of rock-and-roll radio gave his band, the Killers, a foot in the door when they were starting out. Radio stations played his band’s songs and gave the band the opportunity to be heard. Because rock radio is not as common today, fewer rock bands will have the chance to get that foot in the door.

Can you think of a time when you got a foot in the door to a goal you wanted to achieve?

when I was in an intermediate school, I dreamed to be a pharmacist. Few years later, I graduated from the secondary school and I had already a plan to join any pharmacy college in my country. Unluckily, I didn’t get accepted in any of health major. One day, a friend of mine called me to hang out and accidentally he told me that tomorrow would be the last day of registration in the College of Health Sciences. At that time I decided to go the day after to get a foot in the door. Fortunately, I had been accepted and my study had the fruitful result. Currently, I have been working as a pharmacist since 10 years.

Having a foot in the door is a guilt-edged opportunity but you must put your best foot forward at the very first step you take.  Once you inside, don’t be surprised if you have to take many steps in order to get  to where you really wanted to be. I’m experiencing that as I’m writing this post ;)

With the help of my former boss I was able to land a job with my current employer, a company I always wanted to work for. He told me that he had some connections there and that he could put in a good word for me. However, Things didn’t go as expected during my interview. Conforming to the protocols set by the company I didn’t meet all the qualifications for the position I was after. I told the hiring manager my former boss sent me hoping that could cajole him into hiring me. He told me that he was aware of that already but rules are rules and that he can’t hire me for that position. I knew that the interview was trickling to its end, so I asked him if I could use him as a reference if I were to apply for another position somewhere else. He agreed to my request. At that time I knew it was a matter of seconds before he handed me my resume and  suggests that I excuse myself from his office so I waited politely for that : ) . “Would you be interested in another position with us?” he asked. Are you kidding me? I’ll walk your dog sir if that what it takes to walk in next Monday as an employee of this company!. I didn’t tell him that ;). I said that I was very flexible and I could consider applying for any position I was eligible for.

To make a long story short. I eventually got hired, after I spent 2 days in training. I’m not where I wanted to be, and certainly not earning as much as I expected   but once I’m done with my studies I’ll apply for a higher position (maybe  for that same position I was declined a couple of years ago)—with my foot already in the door… mmm  I’m very hopeful I’ll get it .  ( :

i got my foot in the door to breath and a new world was waiting for me when i born:). there were lot of things to do to experience to learn and to observe over there. i was just able to glimpse the world ,it was a bird i view. then i grow up and i was a go getter type of person. i was able to see the beauty and cruelty of the world i observed and learnd alot. odessy is on going now but when ever i use to think about onset i try to remember how i got my foot in the door of life. there are many things that, i want to get my foot in the door for them but there is murk around. i hope one day every thing will be clear and Allah almighty ll bless me in these matters too. there are many times in my life by the way when i got my foot in the door by the grace of Allah.

I got my foot in the door in the company I was working for and still do, a few years a go. That time they where looking for a substitute in the office because one of them had been on holidays for 5 weeks.

It was a charming experience but above all it was the time where I got introduced to my current boss. We got on like a house of fire straight away and very soon he offered me a job in his department and hired me. This really got me a foot in the door and made me able to set sights on the job I’m doing today.

Many years ago I had the wish to work in an american airline operating in my country…who wouldn´t like to travel free …. a friend of mine had his brother in Texas, headquarters of that company, then he was  an executive  at the airline , somehow ,I got his business card and with this I applied to human resources  for a job.  I thought, Gosh, with this recommendation  I have a foot in the door,  I was dead wrong, after the interview they didn´t hire me even to mop the floor ,( remembering Mason , the cast member) .Time after, the company (Braniff)  went out of business .. sorry. hehehehe!!
