Peas are extraordinary vegetables. They’re the perfect example of how beautiful nature can be. Open one pea pod (or shell) and you will see many small, round, green peas inside… each just like the others. Open another pod and you’ll get the same result. Almost all peas look exactly alike, and you’ll find them side by side.
When two people look alike, behave alike, or do the same things, we sometimes say they’re like two peas in a pod. They might wear the same kinds of clothing, have the same silly laugh, or listen to the same bands. Friends also might be called two peas in a pod if they do everything together. It’s hard to be apart from someone when you and that person are as close as two peas in a pod.
Kellie and Sara are talking about becoming roomies. Will they get along like two peas in a pod? Read more in today’s English lesson about friendship.

Kellie: It sounds to me like we’re going to get along. What do you think?
Sara_R: Totally. Two peas in a pod. We both wake up early. We’re both a little messy. We both like to cook.
Kellie: We could have dinner parties.
Sara_R: That would be fun. Have you found an apartment yet?
Kellie: I have. My friend Marni from school says she knows about this place that is phenomenal. Have you rented your own apartment before?
Sara_R: Uh-uh. Will there be a deposit?
Kellie: I believe it’s first and last month’s rent. Landlords ask for that in case you skip town without telling them first.
Sara_R: If we each pay half, I can do it. What about an application?
Kellie: We both have to fill one out just to prove that we don’t have bad credit.
Sara_R: That’s not going to be a problem. What kind of utilities will we have to pay?
Kellie: Internet, electricity, and water. Everything else is paid for by the landlord.
Sara_R: I’m so excited. My first apartment. I mean, our first apartment. We’re going to be great roomies.
Kellie: Two peas in a pod. Come on. Let’s go check it out.

Kellie and Sara have a lot in common. They like to get up early, they don’t worry about cleaning up, and they both enjoy cooking. It sounds like they’re going to get along very well.
The new roomies talk about what they will have to do before renting an apartment, like complete an application and give the landlord a deposit. Even though it’s Sara’s first apartment, she seems to know what she’s doing. And she’s certainly very excited!
Will Kellie and Sara be successful as roommates? Are you like two peas in a pod with anyone in your life?
