Sometimes, it’s hard to know the difference between reality and fantasy.
One kind of television program that blurs the line even more is called reality TV.
On reality television shows, we take a sneak peak into someone’s real life.

Derek:  So, do you ever watch any reality TV.

John:  Uh, I like Fear Factor. Is that considered reality TV?

Derek:  I think, sort of. It’s more like a game show reality. But, like Real World or Who’s Your Daddy?

John:  Yeah. There are some really funny ones out there right now. I think Who’s Your Daddy?’s really scraping the bottom.

Derek:  I think so. And it a, I’ve seen plenty of articles on that one.

John:  But it seems like the trend might be dying out a little bit. I mean, they’ve pretty much hit almost every idea you can think of.

Derek:  Yeah. I think, any more and it would just get really distasteful.

John:  Some of the more popular ones were like The Bachelor and The Bachelorette and, and a lot of stuff about finding love, right?

Derek:  Yeah. I think so, ‘cause everybody’s kind of wanting that fantasy.

John:  Or it’s just fun to watch other people strike out.

Derek:  That’s true, too. A little boost for the ego, maybe.

John:  Yeah. It can be for sure.

Derek:  Maybe people just like to watch others argue.

John:  Well, that’s definitely fun. The more fighting there is, the more entertaining I find it.

Derek:  I think so.

Discussion

Reality TV has changed over the years. The first reality TV shows, like Real World would put a group of strangers together and we got to spy on their lives.
Later, programs began offering prizes to the ‘winners’ of the show. To me, it seems like a large prize at the end takes a little of the reality away from reality TV.
What do you think?
