The new movie A Mighty Wind is another hilarious comedy written and directed by Christopher Guest. Guest is famous for his other movies, including Spinal Tap, Waiting for Guffman and Best in Show.
A Mighty Wind is about a concert in New York City featuring some interesting folk musicians who are reuniting after many years. There’s Mitch and Mickey, who were madly in love until their partnership was torn apart by heartbreak; The Folksmen, whose records were endlessly entertaining for anyone able to punch a hole in the center to play them; and The New Main Street Singers, the most meticulously color-coordinatedneuftet” ever to play together.
Zach recently saw A Mighty Wind. Listen in to his conversation with John to hear what he thinks about it.

John:  Man, it’s really hot outside. Maybe I should go see a movie ‘cause it’s air conditioned in there. Have you seen any good ones lately?

Zach:  Uh, yeah, actually I, I cooled off the other night, uh, with A Mighty Wind.

John:  Oh, how’s that?

Zach:  It was really funny. Have you seen the other Christopher Guest movies?

John:  Unh uh. I don’t think so.

Zach:  Well he did, uh, Spinal Tap and Best in Show and all that.

John:  Oh yeah – I’ve seen those.

Zach:  Yeah, so he’s got that, that really distinctive style with the, they call it the “mockumentary.” It’s kind of a fake documentary with comedians.

John:  Oh, that’s right. And who’s in it?

Zach:  Uh, I don’t know their names, but all the regulars. Uh, Eugene Levy, um, I don’t know the others though. He was great. He had the best part.

John:  Is it usually the same cast of characters for all his films?

Zach:  Yeah, pretty much. There are about five or six in rotation that are usually there.

John:  So you recommend it?

Zach:  Yeah. I recommend it. It’s not quite as good as the other ones, but it’s definitely funny.

Discussion

I haven’t seen A Mighty Wind yet, but I’ll probably check it out sometime soon. It looks pretty funny.
Unlike some of my friends, I don’t love Christopher Guest movies. I mean, they’re OK, but they don’t really make me laugh out loud. I know a few people who have seen Waiting for Guffman and Best in Show over 10 times each!
See you at the movies!
