Tropical deforestation is currently one of the great environmental issues today's world is confronted with. In fact, hectares of tropical forests are being systematically destroyed yearly at an accelerating rhythm, hence the following the worries. What are the causes of this alarming phenomenon? Which consequences can it have on our environment? How can we solve this issue? Tropical deforestation is the destruction of significant areas of tropical forests so as get a non-forest land for various uses. Many causes can explain this ongoing phenomenon. But the most important ones are relative to : - Arable lands for agricultural expansion - Grazing lands for livestock - Urban development - Mining and petroleum extraction - Clearing lands for commercial and industrial development - Wildfires and slash-and-burn practices - Fuel wood. The consequences of this deforestation on our environment are numerous. But let's mention the three ones below. Atmospheric pollution: Tropical deforestation is one of the major causes of the enhanced greenhouse effect. In fact, it disturbs the process of photosynthesis which is very necessary for our environment. Loss of biodiversity: Tropical forests contain more species than any other ecosystem, as well as unique species. As people clear large areas of them, entire species are vanishing, many of them unknown. Disintegration of indigenous communities: Logging, mining and farming in tropical forests sometimes displace indigenous communities. Left without land or other resources, native culture often disintegrate. Is anything can be done to slow down or stop this tropical deforestation? Many things can be done to master this plague. In my opinion, creating large protected areas in these tropical forests where any human activities will be forbidden appears as one of the best ways to preserve them. Moreover, some reforestation plans can be implemented in order to reconstitute the forests where a great deal of trees have been felled.
