You start dying slowly

You start dying slowly

 if you do not travel,

if you do not read,

If you do not listen to the sounds of life,

If you do not appreciate yourself.

You start dying slowly

When you kill your self-esteem;

When you do not let others help you.

 You start dying slowly

If you become a slave of your habits,

Walking everyday on the same paths…

If you do not change your routine,

If you do not wear different colours

Or you do not speak to those you don’t know.

 You start dying slowly

If you avoid to feel passion

And their turbulent emotions;

Those which make your eyes glisten

 And your heart beat fast.

You start dying slowly

If you do not change your life

when you are not satisfied with your job,

 or with your love,

If you do not risk what is safe for the uncertain,

If you do not go after a dream,

If you do not allow yourself, At least once in your lifetime,

To run away from sensible advice…

Dear yely

Thanks for your explanation. In fact, I think, no rule is a rule. For the beautiful Chinese characters, the words itself are enough to express its surreal. Dear yely, I am confident to say Chinese characters are the most brilliant and amazing cultural heritage. A well combination of Chinese characters could create tremendous effects in the visual and acoustic aspects.

As you referred to the three characters book, it seems to be used as kid’s elementary book. I don’t know exactly, anyway, thanks for your illustration about Chinese poem. I want to present you with a poem made by李白 1300 years ago. This poem is my favorite. Its well-made rhyme has never been caught by the later poems so far.

朝辭白帝彩雲間

千里江陵一日還

兩岸猿聲啼不住

輕舟已過萬重山

How beautiful these words! Especially the last sentences were well arranged for expressing that there is no other thing that could stop the trend. Because this is an international website, so I translate it into English below:

At dawn I left earlier from “the White Emperor Town” which is situated on the middle of several patches of clouds.

Along the river, I could reach the far away “River town” within one day.

The noises howled by monkeys from the two sides of river bank could not stop the boat.

At the moment of blink, the boat has already penetrated through ten thousands of high mountains.

Thanks. Dear, take care

Fristly,I pretty appreciate the poem you qouted which reminds me my life in high school..

行到水窮處

坐看雲起時

偶然值鄰叟

談笑無還期

It is kind of hard for me to explain the rule for it is complicated, but I tried my best

You know there are four tones in Chinese character,we call 平上去入 or (平仄音)。The first one and the second tone is called 平平,the third and the last tone is called 仄仄.

The last character in every line of poem should be 平对平,仄对仄。

(sorry,I can't explain it in English totally)

Besides,I can recommend a piece of work-lThree Character Classic《三字经》The content covers some knowledge of  history, astronomy, geography, morality and folk tales。every line  consist of three character,it is 1755 characters in total.

简短的三字经能道出中华五千年的文化历史。但读通的人并不多。

Dear yaly

Thanks for your comment. You are right. There have been a great alteration in making Chinese poem, but playing words are actually a game which no rule could restrict its development as long as your beautiful words could fully express your feeling and thoughts.

Dear yaly, as you said the rule, why don’t you take real examples to tell us what difference is? I would be glad to hear your further opinion and insight.

At last, I want to quote a poem made by王維 over one thousand years ago. That is;

行到水窮處

坐看雲起時

偶然值鄰叟

談笑無還期

To be as my mood as we met.

Take care.

Dear Gucci

Thanks for your invaluable information. I can sense you are a girl who can enjoy and appreciate literature, especially Chinese poem. As matter of fact, Chinese poem is the essence in terms of Chinese literature. It’s because Chinese characters are created from hieroglyphic as opposed to alphabetical words, and we could condense the sentence into the maximum but keep its far-flung meaning intact.

As you mentioned that poet, I am shameful to say I never saw his works before. Maybe, you could give me more of his works. I would appreciate your endeavors.

Another question I want to ask is; do you know a modern Chinese poet called 余光中? He is Taiwanese and write excellent modern Chinese poem.

Dear, Gucci, I also like classical Chinese poem. Now and then, I would raise my pen to write some unorthodox poems. I would like to see you express more about your opinions in the literature.

 Take care.

It is kind of different from Chinese ancient poem.

In Chinese ancient poem, the character in every line(generally, there are four lines or 8 lines in a poem) is needed to be equal and the last character is required to be rhythmic.

But over time, the form of poem becomes more free than before.

The poem you offered does make some sense when reading it carefully.Smile

It's my pleasure :) Well, in Chinese, 晏几道(宋代词人), have you ever read some of his works? Actually, no certain styles, I just read ;) And I like classical Chinese poems better. As for modern poems, I haven't read many and I like 海子.

Pablo Neruda is a Chilean poet. He won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1971 and is considered one of the greatest poets of the 20th century. For more information you can ask wikipedia ;) And, did you mean Chinese girls could only touch on Chinese poets? Of course I like Chinese poets, like Yan Jidao. But I do think literature has no country boundaries. I was attracted by Neruda after I read his collection Twenty Poems of Love and a Song of Despair. So beautiful. And beautiful shadow, I noticed that I ve made a mistake, the name of the poem should be I Like For You to Be Still :)

I choose to walk onto a rare path

the gusts of wind keep blowing against my face

the howl of sound coming from nowhere echos besides my ears

the rustling trees rattle my nerves all the time

the test moment on my sensitive consiciousness never relinquishs my will.

only can I come through this hardship, there will be a hope to greet me in the end .

Sayeh, who is Pablo Neruda? would you give me more information about him? this is a good poem.

gucci, why could you touch on a Persian poet as a chinese girl? its an interesting puzzle on my curious mind.?

I like Neruda's poems. So beautiful. The first poem of his I read is I Like You to Be Still, now I still remember a few lines: I like for you to be still, it is as though you were absent, and you hear me from far away and my voice does not touch you... Hope you like it :)
