Times of Tragedy

Times of Tragedy

Sometimes, tragedy strikes without warning. I will spare everyone the details, as this happened as random as it could be, but suffice it to say, I lost someone close to me recently.

But what I will tell you is what a person learns from a tragedy. I learned that something can be so devistating that it actually changes your brain and leaves you chemically imbalanced. I thought I was OK. I actually was not.

All of us grieve differently and at our own pace. I have spoken to people involved in our incident, and it truly is amazing to see the vast differences in how people deal with things. While one person takes it so hard that they just can't handle simple tasks, another brushes it off like it never happened.

There is nothing we can do that can prevent a tragedy. It can be "an act of God" or even something that a person does that is beyond our control. While nothing can undo the tragedy, find help. Talk to someone. Grieve however you must. But what everyone should do is to try to move on. There is nothing we can do when we dwell on the past. All we can do is treasure it.

Love to you all!

Job Interviews

Job Interviews

Lately at my company, we have been doing job interviews. These interviews are really important for us as employers to understand the job seekers and employ the best of the best.

If you're looking for a job, I have a few suggestions. Do these thing and you will be highly considered. It's amazing that there are such simple things that one can do to increase their chances for employment.

1. Understand the company. Understand who you might work for. This is important because I typically will ask: So, what do you know about our company? The answers are usually -- "I don't know much about it." As a reader, don't you think that it is odd for someone to apply for a job, get an interview, and not even know about the company they might work for? This is the shocking to me. 4 out of 5 people didn't do any research before they came for their interview. I dismissed them immediately.

2. Dress up for the interview. You will be informed of the uniform for your position as soon as you receive it. However, coming dressed down to your interview hurts your chances. I can't believe that people came in jeans and a t-shirt. One came in with a tank top and shorts. Regardless of the job (no matter where you apply), dress up in business attire. This makes you represent yourself as someone who will take your job seriously.

3. Be personable. Everyone gets training. Everyone must learn how to do a position. But the one thing that employers can not train is personality. Be pleasant and be energetic. Your enthusiam will give us the chance to see that you are excited to get the position. Being 'dry' or just blah during your interview (no matter how much experience you have) doesn't give you a better chance.

As always, this blog lets me vent out frustration and allow everyone to learn just a bit of information. Hopefully, this helps you in some way or another :)

Oh no! I didn't win.

Oh no! I didn't win.

Last night, I went out with some friends. The night started great, but it didn't end that way.

No, we didn't end up in a fight or get arrested, but decisions were made and it cost us --financially.

We decided to gamble using casino slot machines. Now, I am not saying it was smart, but this blog is for me to re-assure myself to never do this again. Long story short, we lost. A lot.

People often make unintellgent decisions when consuming alcholic beverages. I am glad that I didn't hurt anyone (we had a designated driver who was not drunk), but gambling is a disease. When I woke this morning, the pain of my decision making hurt my bank account.

Gambling. Most of us do it for the chance to strike it rich the easy way. In many stories from various religions, this a sin. To me, gambling cannot be a good thing. Don't get me wrong--I have won lots of money before--but now, the loss out weighs the gain. Basically, I shouldn't do it.

Today I can be happy because I finally WON--I will never play again.

New Life, New Change

New Life, New Change

I think these days, my blogs all have the same themes. It's about my personal life, my weight, my happiness and my family. Oddly, these topics wouldn't really have came up 5 years ago, but now, I can't stop talking about them. I think the change is from age, maturity, and really the "promotion" from being a young man, to an actual grown up.

I have been away from Ebaby! for about 4 months. Why? Because we had a new addition to our family. This has changed my life in so many ways. Since I have one kid already, I was prepared to have another child. Although I thought it was going to be simple, it became very surprisingly different. With one child, it seems there are small adjustments to be made. It definitely is life changing, but if you prepare for it, the changes are not so hard. With a second child, everything changes even more. I could never have imagined the way this would changed me. The life of a kid is so unpredictable that you can never prepare for anything (if that makes any sense). Basically, you can never prepare for what life has in store for you when you have a family. Things just happen and you have to handle them.

My son is now 3 years old and my daughter is 3 weeks old. How time has flown by since I started this wonderful project. I have grown up and am learning more and more each day. The moral of this blog is this: enjoy every second of your life--because when you blink, you will miss it.

It's time to get fit!

I have been saying this for years: I want to be fit. I wanted to have a six pack stomach, super muscles and just to be healthy overall.

Since 18, I have been going to the gym, usually 2-5 times a week. But still I never achieved that goal of a "perfect body." Then, I started to notice my eating habits. The way to get a perfect body is by eating healthy and being more picky about the foods we eat.

Now, that is my weakness. I LOVE food. I love Japanese, Filipino, Spanish, Italian, American, Thai, Chinese and Vietnamese. Did I say I love food? Hehehe. There are so many delicious dishes that it is really hard for me fight for the perfect body.

So, i came up with a compromise. I work out to keep from getting fat or overweight and so that I can enjoy the foods that I like to eat.

To enjoy life is to enjoy food, and I would hate to deprive myself from the best food the world has to offer. Gym, here I come!

Bon Appetit.

Growing Older

Growing Older

How old is old?

These days, with all the botox, medicines, and lotions on the market, people are trying to look younger.

I am going to turn 36 this month, and I'm also about to have a second child. So this makes me wonder: when turning a certain age, must we act a certain way? Should you change he way you act when you reach a certain age? I am a happy guy who keeps looking forward to the future, and have no real idea of what my age really means.

I feel younger, and (I believe) I look young, so I act young. I act and feel like a 29 year old, so people think that's how old I am. I guess since I believe that I am 29, I found the fountain of youth. I don’t have to act old, because I'm really not that old. I think to really be old, you have to be in your '80s!

Age is nothing but a number. And I know that no matter what number I get, I don’t have be that number.

LIVE YOUNG!

For those that have known me since I was 19, now, in my mid-30s, is the first time that I have really realized I'm a grown up. Last week, we discovered that we are having a girl. We already have a little boy and to have a girl is so exciting that I can hardly wait.

I am very happy that I waited to have kids until this time of my life. Being a parent does changes your life and only in the last few years have I been ready for that change.

Everyday, I am happier and happier--I have been more energized, and more excited about every new minute of every day. The reason is that before, I used to think that life is just about me, and only me. But, after starting a family, I have changed from me to them. All I care about is the way I care and love my family.

Love your family every minute of every day, and treasure every second you have, because you never know what will happen tomorrow.

Worth The Wait

Worth The Wait

How much will you do for technology?

Many new toys have come out recently: XBOX, WII, HD TVS, iPads, Netbooks, and now the new iPhone.

I am an Apple fan. It's just my hobby. I love everything apple comes out with, and I always look forward to any of the new toys that come out from Apple. I used to be a PC. I used to love video games. I used to love other phones, but now-- I can't see myself buying any other product other than Apple.

Just like most people, I waited in line for my new iPhone. I went to the store at 5am, and thought that I would be in line for 3 hours at the most. Boy, was I wrong for thinking that. At 8am, my day started change as I started to see one line move and my line not moving at all. Then at 11am, I was maybe 20 people closer in a line with 1000 people in it. I couldn't just quit and leave the line, so I stayed a while longer. At 1pm, I was 10 people from the front. Then at 2:15pm, I got the new iPhone.

From the people i have spoken to, the question has been, "Was it worth it?" Some people wait in line for days to go to a movie. Some people wait in line for concerts, some for sporting events, while others will dress up like wizards and can't wait to get the final Harry Potter book.

My passion is technology, and to have the iPhone4 was just a happiness that needed to fulfilled, and boy, was I happy to get it.

What will you wait in line for? Have you waited in line for hours or even days? Then you are just like me :)

What's In A Name?

What's In A Name?

With the power of the internet, I have been able to get in touch with relatives that I have never met. Our common last name is basically all that connects us. This year, I have taken special interest in finding out more about who my family is and creating a family tree.

These days, especially in the United States, it's easy to go online and go to a website and put in your name, and then right there in front of you is your family tree. Since almost all Americans are from immigrant families, our family trees often span across the globe. I have started to track down my own family tree. Your family tree is chart of who is related to whom. It's fun to know where our family members are. If you go to where ever they are in the world, then you are not alone, especially since you have family there.

I started to contact people with my last nime via a social media website and asked them to start to put their family history down in a email. I asked them to go as as far back as they can go. Personally, I only know of my grandfather and I don't know if he had brothers or sisters. So I stop right there.

Do you think it is a good or bad idea to get in touch with people that have your last name? It's like contacting a stranger, and your name is your only connection. How many family members do you know you are related to? How many people do you know in your family?

I can't wait to share what I find out about my family. Right now, I have contacted 60 people with my last name, and I am interested to see what will come out of it.

As a last bit of information, last year I was able to find out through a latin expert, that my last name, Acelar, means "fast." Acelar is related to the word "accelerate." Both come from the Latin "accelerātus," wich means to go faster. I am very proud to have a great and original last name!

Today has been called the warmest day of 2010 so far. How exciting for summer to be here. I am pretty weird about heat though. When I lived in the Philippines, my fear was to sweat and to be hot. That's why I love where I live. Yes, it does get hot--but not so hot that i have to worry about being covered in sweat. I would have to say, I believe that I have perfect weather.

What do most people do when it is nice out? For me, it depends on what mood I'm in. I usually sleep. I like the sun, but I get lazy. It's a weird mix. Because when it rains, I have the desire to clean!

I like being at the beach and riding Jet Skis. I love to scuba dive and I want to learn how to surf. I can't wait to Scuba dive again. Being in the water and the sun makes me happy.

It's amazing that just a small thing like a day being sunny can change everyone's mood from gloomy to happy.

I hope everyone has a fun day in the sun soon! For me, it's today. See ya!

Do we have friends out of convenience because of where we work? Or do we search for people to like us and then they become their friend? It was so much easier in our younger days, people became friends just by running in to one another. Now, we have to worry about who we trust in telling anyone any personal details. We have to worry about someone who gets too close, and worry about who we lend anything to.

As some of you know, I have had 4 different lives I have lived so far. Two (which I will mention here) of which are polar opposite. First, is the celebrity life I lived in the Philippines, while the second, is the manager of a large venue. My old friend asked me point blank, “Who is your true friend here?” Here meaning the Grand Central, the place I work. With no immediate response, he asked me – “When you were in the Philippines, who were your friends there?” This started to trouble me, because I realized that I do have friends everywhere… But I do not have really TRUE friends. I don't have any friends who I would consider as a confidant, a go-to person, someone you can lean on. Is that depressingly true? Can I not think of someone?

Even now, I don’t think I really have true friends. I have so many people I can go out with, people I can drink with, people I can watch a movie with. I guess I just need one good friend, and that is all I ever needed.

At the end of the conversation, I realized my only friend that my one true is my best friend, my girl.

Yay!

Hey Folks! So...I have a new job. These days, to get a career is hard for so many people. Truly, i am extremely thankful for having the opportunity this given to me. I am now managing one of the largest bars/bowling alleys in Portland. It's a very unique place--very nice and classy but lots of fun! I love holding events, so I can't imagine a better place for me to work.

Now it's time to ask the question. What is your dream Job?

I have realized that when you work in your lifetime, your job should not be a job, it should be something that makes you feel excited every time you wake up. I hope that you do find that career or job that you love to do everyday, as I have.

When I first applied for this position, I was lucky just to have the opportunity to be a part of this company. To have a higher position and be the promotion manager for Grand Central is more than I could have asked for. I basically control parties and facilitate the events. It's so much fun!

Of course, my dream job would not be for everyone. Some people like to fish, while others like to work in a high rise office building. What ever you choose... your life will be less stressful if you are doing what you love!

Am I dreaming?
Like most of you, I try to find the purpose in my life. I am trying to find the thing that makes me happy. Of course I am happy being with my family. But I haven't had the best of luck trying to nail that perfect job.
I really do not want to go in to too much detail (mainly because i do not want to jinx it), but I think I may have just landed my dream job. When i mention it here on my blog next month, most of you would probably think nothing of it or think, "Why is that his dream job?" A dream job is when you work at a job and it feels like you are not working. You just do what you enjoy most. To most people, a dream job is a job you wish you could get...but still is a job. I love to do many different occupations, scting, modeling, hosting, jjing, business...etc. But, there is that one thing that completes all those and turns that in to one incredible job!

Sorry for being so vague, but I am sharing with you the excitement I have for what is in store of me. Once I get this ...my life will turn around to another direction. And this direction will give another opportunity to do more and use my knowledge for another position. This dream job is just a beginning.

This is part 1 to this blog, because this will be a to be continued!

Is it true?

Is it true?

There are many theories to actual life on this planet. Religion gives us so many options for theories about why we exist. Scientists believe that this is just evolution and after a billion or so years...human!

But there's one thing that keeps puzzling me. It's the quantum physics of human life. the belief that our minds control the way that our lives are being directed. Is it true? Is there such a thing called "The Secret"? Some people have the power of attraction by thinking of what will happen to themselves.

Personally, I have my own goals. I have a direction in which I would like to go. I have a wish list, and I also have my "someday i will get..." list. The way that this "law of attraction" works is that if you think it, it will come. As people pray for miracles and believe that God will provide, it's your mind that provides the same results.

The reason for my blog on this subject is that things have been happening in my life that, at this point, are quite negative. Is it me that is causing this to happen? Or is this is just a bad time in my life? I don't know what to think. I believe that I should keep trying to stay positive and know that I am blessed more than others. I should keep my head up and know that there are better days ahead.

Thank goodness for my friends here on English, baby!, and thank you for reading. Life is weird. To enjoy the sun, you must experience the rain. :)

I Love Being a DJ

I Love Being a DJ

Not sure if most of you know, I DJ for events, weddings, birthdays, and other special parties. The best thing about this side job, is that i get to play music and have fun with people who are already having fun...because they know they are at a party. It's amazing how music does effect so many people. That last statement sounds so odd. The reason why is because many years ago, I only liked a certain type of music. And as I matured, I have learned to appreciate all types of genres.

Music. It's so important for all people. Everyone likes THEIR music. It is very rare to meet someone who doesn't like music. People do however, hate certain types...but love their own music. I have played all types of music. I have seen the way people react when their music is being played. Some people remember the time when they heard that song. Some remember the love the had when that song came out. Some even remember when they were growing up how they actually looked during the time they danced to that song.

I love doing what i do. I enjoy the reaction to what i play and at the same time, being an MC/Host for many years, this job fits me perfectly. Next time when you hear a song...maybe it's something you like, maybe it's a song you don't like, give it a chance. Because somewhere around the world... that someone's favorite song!

Losing Weight

Losing Weight
I am usually a health nut. I have always been a little lean and sometimes gain a few pounds here and lose a few pounds there. However lately, I have seemed to have lost the power to lose those few pounds. What is wrong with me?

In the past, I have always been criticized for my weight, especially in the Philippines. I have followed the no carb diet, no sugar diet, South Beach diet, and a few other random diets. Because I was so focused on weight, I became a fitness trainer here in Portland to share what I know to clients and help them lose the weight. These days I just keep putting the pounds on.

What has gone wrong? Is it because that I became a dad two years ago? Is it because I cut down on drinking and going out and now I eat more? Or did I just never know that I was eating more than I should? I believe it could be that I am just getting older and my body is not metabolizing the way it did when I was younger. Either way, I am feeling crappy about it. I have a goal to lose the weight and get myself back in to shape by August, so I am eating more now and then I’ll lose it all.

I can do it…do you think I can?

Nice to Meet You
Yes, I am one of the new cast members of English Baby. You know, it's been so much fun.Actually I have started to think of our shoot/dialogue times as being my therapy session. I get caught up on the current movies and artists of the world, catch up with the other cast members in their lives, and even have some good pizza while doing all this.

I have been an actor for more than 10 years. Most of my work , however, has been done in the Philippines and doing this type of work is not really new to me. However being with various personalities on set has made me a rookie in the United States.

It's really great to work with people who have different lives. Mostly in the industry of showbizness in the Philippines, people do the same thing and communicate with the same people. Since I have met my new friends, each one of us does something different in our lives. It's nice to meet people outside your circle.

The topics of English, baby! really make me think more of what is currently going on in the entertainment world. These days, I work with a corporate company and I usually focus more on business and I don't really have the time to know more about what is going on. Learning about new movies and new artists and even old ones who have made a new album, makes it easier for a conversation starter.

I am excited for the next shoot. Go English, baby! Thanks for letting me part of your team!
