Hi all,

Today we will look at a few idioms.  I will start by giving you some meanings and then a text where you can see the idioms used in context.

Make money hand over fist: To make a lot of money

work one's butt (ass) off: work very hard and long hours

Get the sac: to be fired from a job

Rat race: intense competition for success in business

pay someone peanuts: give the person a small salary for a big job

********************************************

John was 35 years old and for the past 8 years he had worked at an insurance company.  Yesterday he got the sac because his boss was no longer happy with him.

For 8 years he had worked his butt off in a small office while his boss and superiors made money hand over fist while paying John peanuts.

John was tired of the rat race and wasn't working as hard the last week he was there.  His Boss didn't like the fact that John wasn't working as hard as before and gave him the sac.

 *******************************************

Now your turn ... what does the last idiom in the story mean.

Let's see who gets it first ... have fun learning and as always, never be afraid to ask questions.

Ok now the second part of the challenge for everyone.

This is for advanced students ... Ii want you to write  story with the idioms you learned in this lesson and send them to me.

For lower level students try to use them in a simple sentence so you can understand how they work.

Good luck to you all ... and everyone who tries is a winner, just for trying and learning Wink
