If a schoolmate came to tell me that he was planning to get married, I would say “Congratulations” first and then ask seriously “How about a second thought?”

Getting married is surely a kind of right and freedom of adults laid down in The Marriage Law and Marriage Registration Regulation. University students are mature and sophisticated enough to make choices and decisions. But still, they are not well prepared for marriage.

Firstly, they aren’t financially prepared yet for marriage. Most university students are supported by their parents. How can a student think about getting married before they become economically independent? They aren’t able to support the family.

Secondly, students should concentrate on their studies. It will cost them lots of time to balance schoolwork and family life. Besides, there are too many uncertainties and pressure in their lives, especially their jobs. Have you ever thought that student couples might work in different cities after graduation?

Thirdly, it is hard to get support from parents and universities. Parents pay for their children’s education and hope they focus on studies. In addition, the universities need a long time to ensure the actual implementation of the new policy. For example, a more flexible credit point system should be built, especially for pregnant students. They need to take care of the baby and recuperate. To protect couples’ privacy, more dormitories have to be built.

Even though marriage may be a sweet end of love, it is not suitable for university students. Not because marriage is bad, just because it is not the right time.
