I have recently started to take an interest in intelligence or IQ tests if you will. It fascinates me and I love solving those logical problems. But really, has IQ anything to do with how smart you are?

That is a common question and it hasn't really got a yes or no answer. A person with a high IQ doesn't automatically make him or she smart. Yes that person will probably be outstanding when it comes to solving a logical problem such as this one:

Fill in the blanks:  1  2  _  4  _ 6

But if you ask the same person this question:

When did the WW2 start and end?

It's not certain that the he/she will know the answer just because he/she got a high IQ score. IQ is by no means the same as intelligence and knowledge.

I'd like to take my girlfriend and me for an example. I scored an IQ in the vicinity of 137 (as you can never be certain) at an IQ test while she had around 125 but I reckon that she is way more intelligent than I am. She has more general knowledge, she has more social competence and she always outperform me when we play games like trivial pursuit.

So what do I want to say with all this? To all who thinks they are stupid because they happen to have a low IQ: Intelligence and knowledge is not the same thing as IQ. You can still be smart with a low IQ score. To all who thinks they are smart only becuase of a high IQ score: Stop being so arogant. It takes alot more to be smart than just being able to see some logic in number problems similiar to the one above.

To all: Have a nice and pleasent day!

Cheers!

My dear, u are right, as usual. even if generally men score higher in IQ tests, women have emotional intelligence, better social abilities. At school I rarely find girls with very high IQ scores, while I had some boys who did better than teachers..It also depends on the test, there are so many and so different. However, I am sad to say that nowadays boys seem to have more knowledge in domains like history or geography, while in the past, in my generation, girls knew much more than boys..

And let me tell u something , when I was 14, I had the highest IQ score in my whole school , but what did I do with it? Nothing! I read a lot, I know a lot, but I am just a poor teacher while my less intelligent classmates are now businessmen and politicians...There are many different kinds of intelligence, nowadays it is more important to have that one that helps u relate to people and achieve your goals by all means...

Sorry if I sound too depressing

i dont think IQ score can value someone's intelligence 100% exactly. u're intelligent at the field u study deeply and u understand about it, right. Anyway, i'm impressed by ur 137 score. u seem to be very intelligent ^^ hihi

I think IQ is the insufficient term to define a person's inteligence. And so we heard the another term EQ(emotional intelligence).

to be necessary telling comporision of those concepts. I can say EQ support you for social life while IQ do that for the school.

in my opinion computer can have a good IQ but no part of some EQ. May be there is not a strict line between them that I said but more or less it is that meaning.
