His date of birth could not be found. He is the son of first Hun ruler Teoman. The mother of another son of Teoman, who was younger than Oghuz Khan, sought solutions to enthrone her son and then deceiving Teoman, sent Oghuz Khan as a hostage to Ku ans, their southern-western neighbors. Hostage meant, in accordance with the law understanding of the day, the guarantee of peace.          Stepmother of Oghuz Khan, to guarantee enthronement of her son, deceived Teoman one more time and made him war against Ku ans. Since the agreement was violated, Oghuz Khan was to be killed by Ku ans. But, Oghuz Khan escaped to his country rapidly. His father was very happy about this, and gave a province of 10 thousand soldiers as a reward. Oghuz Khan used this possibility very well. Using his features such as being a hero and skills in founding organizations, he stared military preparations against his father he grudged against.          Oghuz Khan, who turned the army he held into a war machine, improved arrow, a traditional weapon, and extended its range. After completion of his preparations, he marched upon his father and beating him, ascended to Hun throne in 209 B.C.          The first thing Oghuz Khan did after being ruler of Hun state, was to eliminate Tunguzes in the east and taking all Turkish clans in the region as far as Caspian Sea under his domination. He is the first to found Turkish unity by uniting Turkish tribes. In his state, the tribes were free in their interior affairs. Such tradition lived until Ottomans. The tribes were only responsible for paying tax or fees to the government and arrangement of soldiers.          Oghuz Khan always warred during his period as a Khan of thirty five years between years 209 and 174 B.C. The borders of his country expanded from Caspian Sea to Indian Ocean, from Himalayas to Siberia. Even Chinese Wall, which was constructed against Hun attacks, did not be enough to stop Oghuz Khan armies. As a matter of fact, Oghuz Khan, by going as far as central China with an army of 320 thousand people in one campaign, obliged Kao-Ti to leave northern regions of his country and pay tax to Hun state. The Chinese paid such tax for 58 years.          Oghuz Khan died in 174 B.C.          It is said that another of his names in Turkish is Alp Er Tunga and that his name in Chinese sources is Mete.          Oghuz Khan is described as follows in Oghuz Epic:          He was a brave man with sable shoulders and wolf waist. There was light in his eyes and blood in his palms. He sucked his mother for forty days, no more. He started to ride horse when he was two or three. When he matured and gained wisdom, they told him that there emerged a monster in the close forest, and gave no quarter to the flocks and people of one or two cities. He went to the forest, found a deer, and tied on a forest, and turned back. He found the deer eaten the next day. Then he found a bear, tied onto the same three, and went back. When he turned back, he saw its bones. Then he himself leaned on the three and began to wait. The monster, who was used to prepared hunt, touched Oghuzes shield when it came. They fought, he defeated the monster, took its head; neighboring cities celebrated. Notables gathered and understood that this Oghuz was the one to gather them under his flag. They all gathered around him."
