Many Vietnamese people are still superstitious nowadays. They believe in superstitious regulations which have set up a long time ago, nobody knows who set up them. ‘n no one can explain why they have been set up. I think people accept them because they help them to explain some mysterious phenomenons which science can’t do. Besides they make people think that they can direct their fate to be better.
- The Vietnamese believe that the first person who comes to ur house at the first day of the new year (Lunar calendar) will affect to u ‘n ur family. If he’s lucky, successful, ur family ‘n u will be, too. So people usually invite the person who was successful ‘n lucky in the year before to come to their house to bring them his luck.
- If the first person who u meet is a woman, u‘ll be unlucky on that day. Be careful !
- The glass, cup, bowl, plate, etc … break. That‘s a bad omen.
- Don’t give a tooth-pick to s.o’s hand directly because people consider doing this ur relationship with him will be bad.
- Bitting ur lip is a sign that shows u’ll receive s.th (letter, gift, money, etc…) from s.b so far from u.
- When u talk about s.o (but he’s absent), he’ll sneeze.
- Ur ears itch means s.o’s scolding u.
- Don’t sweep the floor at the first day of the new lunar year unless u want to be poor.
- U’ll be unfortunate if u have ur hair cut at the beginning of the new lunar year.
- If u buy clothes at the beginning of the new lunar year, s.o in ur family‘ll die.
- Don’t present shoes or handkerchief to ur lover because it’s a sign of seperation.
