‘Domradio’ says that the EU currently has conversations with all Northern African countries. The plan is to build centers in North Africa where people could apply for sanctuary in the EU. However none of these countries is willing to cooperare with the EU on this matter at the moment. While Morocco for example says that the citizens of Morocco quickly grow suspicious when it comes to the building of centers like these, Mauritania says they feel treated like an object rather than a partner on this matter.

Hey Joe,
lawyer-sneakiness? That term sounds so negative in this case. After all that’s great news if you side with the Sahraui.
However to answer your question: The EU and Morocco have a treaty that doesn’t only set norms for the cooperation between the EU and Morocco, but for the ENP (the European Neighboring Politics) as a whole. That means that while the EU and Morocco both profit from this treaty, Morocco gave up some of its autonomy to the European Court.
Well,...nobody forced Morocco to sign this thus they should live with the cosequences.

How do the Europeans gain judicial authority over North Africa?
Does this European Court have actual authority over those nations?
I thought the Umma considered itself autonomous like we do.
It sounds like lawyer sneakiness to me.

The German human rights organisation “GfbV” says the European Court decided that Western Sahara – which neighbors Mauritania, meaning that all conflicts in this region automatically also influence the situation in Mauritania – shall not belong to Morocco. This means that Morocco has no right for unlimited use of the huge amount of fish in this area. A former fishing “agreement” between Spain and what back then was its colony Western Sahara thus was not declared entirely invalid, but still Morocco now has only limited access to the fish in this area and has to make sure that the Sahraui living in Western Sahara also profit from Morocco’s fishing industry getting their fish from them.

“The German informative TV-show “360° – GEO Reportage now said that the native people of the Mauritanian Imragues had a problem: For centuries they have been fishing in Mauritanian bays. Men brought the fish home and women prepared it so that parts could be sold to earn a living and other parts could be consumed by their own children. Meanwhile there just are too many fishermen from foreign nations fishing in these waters and keeping the Imragues from fishing. They now catch a lot less fish than they used to. Meanwhile the situation is so critical that it has negative side effects on the cultural and political life of these people. Also these fisheries even make use of the misery of the Imragues and trick them into making debts to make the Imragues depend on them, so that the fisheries could dictate them. For example the fisheries make an Imrague buy a boat or a net from them even though he will make some debts he will have to pay to them and then control to whom the Imrague who owes them is allowed to sell his fish. Problems like these were unknown when the Imragues shared the fish with Mauritanian industrial fisheries only.
