Ummm…Thank you for commenting! Sure it’s real and yes it kinda looks like a stuffed animal. The name is golden-mantled tree-kangaroo. Have a nice day! Happy Halloween!

Of course this doesn’t concern the golden-mantled tree-kangaroo – shooting a critically-endangered yet adorable little thing like this just for the meat would cause a lot of protests -, but at least this is about this marsupial’s Australian relatives: Due to all the recent problems with products from feeding-lots – like meat being contaminated with unhealthy soy and antibiotics – the trend now is that many people want to buy the meat of wild beast instead as they consider this to be healthier. Especially exotic wild beast – like kangaroo – seems to increase in popularity.
Now the German animal-aid organization “Tierschutzbüro” published a text that explains why the meat of kangaroos may not be as healthy as it seems at first:
>Officially only healthy animals are to be shot, but fact is that most hunts are organized by local hunters who aren’t qualified to tell healthy and sick examples apart.
>Most wild beast is shot far away from the closest cold storage. Until hunters finally bring the meat there, they cool it provisionally only. The result – e.coli bacteria and salmonellas – later are found in many junks of kangaroo meat.

I hope so, too, but I guess our hope won’t be in vain. Recently we watched a movie about a very rare fish named coelacanth in a biology lesson and there they also delivered information about a project that recently took part in the area of an African archipelago. There the people used to be so poor that they couldn’t effort anything better than wooden boats to fish. This resulted in the death of a lot of coelacanths that got caught accidentally. Just to save this fish a project was started to gain enough money to make those people buy better boats. Now they can catch their fish far away from the coast-where the water is deeper-and thus this fish that after all lives close to the seaground is saved.
Another project I heard about has the rather ambitious aim to breed so many pandas that these animals won’t even become critically endangered.
Projects like these prove that we have at least the right to stay optimistic. We may not be able to save all of these critically endangered animals, but perhaps at least some of them.
