dr.mo,
So Jews are polytheists? ;)
I read somewhere that there are non-Christians who have problems considering Christianity as a monotheist religion, because they believe that God appears in three forms – the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost -, but actually this shouldn’t be a real reason to call them polytheists. For example all three MONOTHEIST religions know the story of God revealing himself in the form of the burning bush. However we also know the story of the creation of the universe, in which he was rather a creator than fire. In some other stories we know from the Bible, the Koran and the Torah however he is neither a creator nor an element, but something different from that. Does this mean that monotheism doesn’t exist at all? After all these stories describe God in totally different ways.
Actually I know that the religion of the Ancient Greek Empire wasn’t monotheistic at al, but I think it describes very well what I think about Trinity: The God Zeus fell in love with a mortal princess and he decided to kidnap her. So he transformed himself into the form of a bull and the princess was to impressed by this beautiful and tame animal that she wanted to ride it. When she sat on its back however, the bull ran away and brought her to the island Cyprus where he transformed back to make her see his true outward appearance.
Later they got some children and stuff like that, but what I’m actually trying to tell you by this story is that although a god may appear in different forms it still is the same god. Or do you think that Zeus’ character changed the moment his physical appearance changed? Do you think that JHWH ( Allah ) is not Allah anymore when he changes into another form?
