>due to the weather conditions this year during the harvest season of 2018 farmers got about 30% less corn than in 2017. This is a disaster as many feed-lots need corn to feed their cattle and pigs,
>until recently farmers and owners of feed-lots had to abandon their farm, dairy farm or feed-lot at some point to get money after retirement. I mean they either had to pass it on to the one inheriting this building or they had to sell it. This was called ‘Hofabgabeklausel’. Now the German ‘Bundestag’ decided that people should profit financially from their farm during their retirement if they want to.

‘Agrarheute’ says that the number of illegally sold chemical plant protection products keeps increasing rapidly. The makers are no professionals and neither know nor care about the effects some of their chemicals have on the human body after eating a plant that absorbed These chemicals. Among the buyers they even found serious agricultural enterprises that produce food for cattle, pigs – which eventually will end up as human food – or even humans.

‘Agrarheute’ says that the prices of rapeseed, soy, oats, hay and straw – all of which are used as food for cattle – have increased within the EU. Partially this is due to the weather having ruined harvest in the areas the EU usually gets them from, but partially it is also due to transporting these goods across the sea having become more expensive. That’s why European dairies and cattle farmers currently struggle.
