The American accent

mubrik

Oman

Hi,
Learning English is my hobby .I think my level is intermediate now ,so do you recommend to learn the American accent at this stage. I don't know whether it's difficult or not ,but since I watch American movies every day , I think the learning process won't be that difficult.

I've found some interesting books about this accent in the library .
So what do you recommend…I really need some good adviceSmile

You seem to have more exposure to an American accent so I would recommend that you learn the American accent.

What some people do is write in British and speak in American…I am not suggesting you do that. I am just commenting on it…

Not only spellings differ in American and British English, but some of the words are also different. (candy or sweet, bookshop or bookstore, etc.)

So, you may need to be aware of these differences when you adopt a particular type of English accent.

I am sure there will be a lot of people here at English Baby who can help you with your American Accent training.

Amazon sells some excellent guides:

YouTube has some good videos:

But for some of us, this may be the best choice! -

Mastering a particular accent is great, but knowing the basic facts about the world is more important. By the way, I've heard about Turkey! Cool  .... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ANTDkfkoBaI&feature=related

That's one of the good things about Ebaby – you also learn your geography!

re: "Is British accent more common than American accent in formal areas?"

hope you don't mean that americans don't ever find themselves in "formal areas" or when they do , they speak British English?

(just kidding but this doesn't make sense to me :-))
