I need help on how I could improve my vocabulary. =(

Hello everyone. Can anybody give me a good advice on how I could increase my lexical resource. I tried taking a mock SAT test before (I got it from a book) and all the big words just drove me nuts!!! I mean, who would have thought that words like "discombobulate, ubiquitous and bamboozle" exist? Please help.

And thank you so much for that advice Brian. I really appreciate it. I guess you're right. Some words are not really used in an actual conversation. It's just that I was totally overwhelmed by all those words that came up on the test. I felt like a complete 'airhead'. Haha!
