Happy Friday Friends!
You know, we were looking over a number of our past lessons and we realized that we had never recorded somebody sitting down to order food at a nice restaurant!
We promptly sent John out to dinner with the recording equipment, and the conversation that follows is the result! This lesson will help familiarize you with ordering food at a restaurant in English!
Have fun!

John

Server:  Good evening sir. Can I start you off with something to drink, or are you ready to order?

John:  Yeah, I’ll just take a glass of your house white wine if that’s okay.

Server:  No problem, and uh, are you ready to order now or would you like me to come back?

John:  Well, I’m looking at this list of specials you have here. What’s your favorite?

Server:  I think the, uh, the crab cake salad is by far the best thing on the menu.

John:  It that going to fill me up?

Server:  It, it’s actually very filling.

John:  What kind of dressing is on that?

Server:  It’s, uh, a house dijonaise type of dressing.

John:  Okay. And can I get some soup or some bread with that?

Server:  Actually, bread comes with that meal and we have three different soups available. We have chicken noodle, potato cheese soup, or a, uh, bouillabaisse.

John:  I didn’t understand that third one so I think I’ll take the potato cheese. Can you get this done pretty quick? I have an appointment.

Server:  I’ll put a rush order on it.

Discussion

If you don’t know what you want to eat at a restaurant, you might want to ask your Server about items on the menu that they find particularly tasty.
John does this in the conversation above, and his server is happy to offer her advice. You may notice that when John had a question, he asked it. Keep in mind that you can do the same thing! Your server’s job is to make sure you have an enjoyable meal!
If you have questions about eating out, or would like to tell everyone a restaurant story, please come to the Life Goes On message board to share!
Have a great week!
