Colombia news - hot air balloons

199 years ago today, the Republic of Colombia secured its independence from Spain. Now it is one of the strongest and longest democracies in Latin America and I am proud to call it my home. Despite years of internal strife and problems, Colombians are generally a very happy bunch and optomistic about their contrie's future.

Happy birthday to my adopted country.

yesterday, as part of the celebration, the airspace above Bogota was closed in the morning for "The Flight of Freedom" a procession of more than 60 hot air balloons. It was a grand sight.
