soak up the sun

Sheryl Crow’s “soak up the sun” is so cool, but some of the lyrics I don’t understand. like:

“My friend the communist
Holds meetings in his RV
I can’t afford his gas”

What does “RV” mean? does gas here mean gasoline?

“I’m gonna soak up the sun
Got my 45 on
So I can rock on”

What does “45” here mean? Thanks guys and ROCK ON!

I don’t know if it’s right in this context, but RV can mean that big vehicle in which people can live – cook, sleep, even bathe.

I can’t help you with “45”. I’m curious too…
