Hi! Don't worry, the passive voice is tricky and takes some time to learn. We use it when we don't know who performed an action or when that information is not very important.

For instance, I might say "My brother was killed" if I didn't know who killed my brother. If I did know who killed him, I would use active voice: "John Smith killed my brother." 

Here are some more example sentences:

My bike was stolen yesterday.

Michele is being raised by her grandparents.

My dog has been hit by a car. Frown
