Over the hill

Hello Ebaby teachers,

My question is about yesterday’s Enalish lesson “over the hill”. Does it only mean too old to do sth or enjoy sth?

I remember one of the conversations in Ugly Betty. Daniel asked a model that how old she is? and the model said she is 25,and so over the hill.

So “over the hill” also simply means old? Thanks

Good question! Yes, in a sense it just means “old.” But in the example you give, the assumption is that 25 is too old to be a model, so it’s still tied to a particular activity. Make sense?

Best,

Amy
