I had a great week last week! I went to see two fantastic live shows. On Wednesday I saw the Old 97’s, a hip band from Texas. On Friday night I was lucky enough to see singer-songwriter Bob Schneider.
For me, there’s nothing better than seeing talented musicians perform live…

I saw the Old 97’s in an old performance hall in Portland called the Crystal Ballroom. It’s a neat place and it’s not too big, so I was very close to the band.
The Old 97’s are great live. They play a mix of rock and country music that’s perfect to dance to. Almost all of their songs are fast-paced, and the band members have tons of energy, so they’re a lot of fun to watch.
In contrast, Bob Schneider was much more mellow. He performed all 14 songs from his latest album, Lonelyland, before he said a word to the audience. Although I loved the music he was playing, I was beginning to think that Bob must be a boring guy.
He wasn’t. After he finished his first 14 songs, his attitude changed, and he became much more animated. He talked to the crowd between songs and at one point put down his guitar and started dancing while his bandmates continued to play their instruments.

Like I said before, I love live music. For me, it’s great to see performances in small places where you can get close to the band. Bob Schneider played at the Aladdin Theater, which is an old movie theater in Portland, and there were probably less than 200 people at the show. It was perfect.
If you like live music, I would recommend both Bob Schneider and the Old 97’s. In fact, both of them have great CD’s too.
Do you like live concerts? Have you ever heard Bob Schneider or the Old 97’s? Come to the Music Mix message board and let us know!
Take it easy,
