Even before MTV showed up in August of 1981, music was an important part of television. Today, there are several music channels and special performances are broadcast nearly every week.

If you love music, you can find lots of it on television. There are several channels that are dedicated to music and music related pop culture. They feature music videos, music performances, music related shows, features on types of music, features on specific music artists, features on the history of music, and lots more.
The biggest and most popular music channel in the world is MTV. MTV focuses on music fans in their teens and twenties, and actually features more shows than music videos. For example, The Osbournes, The Real World and Jackass are all on MTV every week. For those in the 25-plus age range, VH1 (Video Hits One) is a good alternative. It features more music and more shows focused specifically on music.
Other music television options include CMT (Country Music Television) and BET (Black Entertainment Television). In addition, late night TV shows like the Late Show with David Letterman and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno feature popular musicians and bands on a regular basis.

I’m a music video addict. I love watching videos. Unfortunately, it’s gotten harder and harder to do that. MTV and VH1 have so many shows that they don’t have time to show many videos. The only time there are lots of videos on is in the middle of the night. Luckily, there are thousands of videos available online. I have a fast connection to the internet, so I watch them on my computer.
