Have you ever heard of a band called Gwar? They’re known for being very extreme and dressing up like monsters. It’s really not very pretty. I think people like to see Gwar play because they are so sick. Still, they are a part of American music. Read on about this band of freaks.

Steph: I saw these really weird people walking down the street downtown today.
Derek: Oh, really? What did they look like?
Steph: Well, they were wearing really funny clothing and they were dressed up. And they had something like blood or something splattered on them.
Derek: Kinda reminds me of that band, uh, Gwar.
Steph: Oh yeah. Come to think of it. I think Gwar was playing today.
Derek: Oh really? That sounds like it would be an interesting show.
Steph: Yeah, that’s right. And they stand up on stage and they splatter things on people like, um, vomit and blood and all kinds of nasty things, don’t they?
Derek: Yeah. I think so. It’s called, uh, shock rock.
Steph: Shock rock, eh? Have you ever been to a Gwar concert?
Derek: No. But I’ve heard plenty about them. Like I hear that they wear normal clothes and hang out with the crowd while the other bands play. And then they get up on stage. And they have their costumes on. It’s a pretty bizarre act, I think.
Steph: Yeah. What a bunch of freaks.
Derek: Yeah. They’d probably appreciate that.

Yeah. They probably would appreciate being called freaks. I think these guys dress up just to get attention. I think it would be fun to see one of these shows. I don’t think that the things they splatter on you are real, probably just paint or something. Right? What do you think? Would you ever go see these guys live?
