In the eye of the beholder” is most often used in relation to beauty. People often say “beauty is in the eye of the beholder” in reference to opinions about beautiful things. However, other things can be in the eye of the beholder as well. For example, if you enjoyed a movie and your friend didn’t, you could say that the quality of the movie was in the eye of the beholder.
