Quote

1. Quote - Listen to the quote and guess what the slang means.

“I dig Outkast and Alicia Keys, folks like that, but there’s not a lot of musicians out there right now, and I grew up listening to musicians like Return to Forever, James Brown, Earth, Wind & Fire, and I kind of feel that’s missing.”
- Prince, musician, in an interview with Sway Calloway.

Definition

1. Definition - Study the definition.

like, enjoy, appreciate

2. Use - Learn how the slang is used.

Dig” can be used in a variety of situations, but it is a very informal word and is more appropriate for friendly conversations. You probably shouldn’t use it in a job interview, but it will make you sound cool when you’re just hanging out with friends. Basically, when you “dig” something, you really like it. You think it’s cool. “Dig” is most often used to describe personal interests. I’ve heard it used to express a liking of certain music, movies or even people.

Examples

1. Examples - Hear some example sentences.

””I like European techno music a lot. I definitely dig Stereolab and Air.”“

””I can tell that John _dig_s that girl because he is always talking about her.”“

””It’s a good thing that I left that job because I really wasn’t _dig_ging the situation. There were too many rumors and too much office gossip!”“

””I really dig Chinese food. It’s by far my favorite.”“
