The G in old G stands for gangster. It refers to an experienced gang member.

This term is used quite often in both rap songs and in interviews. It is one of those terms which is used by people within the community. If you’re not a rapper nor a gangster, you probably would not use this term, except in a joke.

New slang is often invented by small groups of people – in this case rappers – and then used and understood by the media. Isn’t that cool?
