yes, tag questions are important in (for) language communication. As far as tense is concerned, we have to keep the same tense in the interonegative sentence (tag question)as that of the affirmative one, that’s to say,if the verb in the affirmative sentence is conjugated in the present simple tense, for example, the verb in the tag question should be conjugated in the Present SimpleTense as well:You have many books at home, don’t you?(present simple tense in both sentences). He’s slept rather long today, hasn’t he? (present perfect tense in boht)

Tag questions help you to understand grammatical roots of mixed phrases. They seem to be complex only at the first stage of learning English. Examples of tag questions: I’m with you, aren’t I? You have many books at home, don’t you? He’s slept rather long today, hasn’t he? Your cat likes fish, doesn’t it? You can swim, can’t you? My friend’s been learning English for ten years, hasn’t he? We’ll go there tomorrow, shall we not? My pupils are ready to go out, aren’t they? People should learn, shouldn’t they?
