When men use a bathroom, there is one rule they should always follow: “When finished using the toilet, put the seat back down.” Women often complain about men not doing this. Men are often too lazy and forget.
At Ebaby!, we share our bathroom with a few other companies. Those other companies are upstairs with both men and women employees.
Recently we’ve been finding the toilet seat up in the bathroom and we’re trying to figure out who’s doing it. Below is a conversation Tanis and I had about this problem.

John:  Guess what happened?

Tanis:  What?

John:  I just came back from the bathroom. The toilet seat was up again.

Tanis:  Again?

John:  Yes!

Tanis:  Ahh! That is gross!

John:  I know the women upstairs are going to think that it’s us down here!

Tanis:  Well, did you put the seat down?

John:  Of course I put it down after I was done with it. But what I’m worried about is that the people up there think that we’re doing it.

Tanis:  Well, I have a little confession to make. It’s not me but I, I know who it is!

John:  Well, it can’t be you. You’re a girl!

Tanis:  Right, right. Unless I was really weird!

John:  That’s true!

Tanis:  No, um, I think I know who it is. It’s one of the guys upstairs ‘cause I went in there right when he was coming out and there was the seat up.

John:  I see that seat up, like, two or three times a week. I wonder if it’s the same guy?

Tanis:  Maybe we should leave notes in the bathroom?

John:  I think we should leave a note in the bathroom that says, and the seat up, and the note says, “English, baby! did not do this!”

Tanis:  Doesn’t that seem a little bit, uh, like we’re the culprit?

John:  No, it’s, it’s showing that we aren’t responsible for this terrible act and, uh, and we’re trying our best to improve the situation.

Tanis:  Sounds like a plan, man!

Discussion

This might sound like a strange thing to talk about, but it’s actually a common topic. Men and women often discuss it.
We’re laughing a lot in the conversation. Even though it’s a common topic, talking about the bathroom is a little embarrassing. Laughing helps us feel more comfortable.
Do you talk about these kinds of things in your culture? Would it be impolite? Please go to the Life Goes On Message Board and tell us your story! Otherwise, talk to you soon!
Your American friend,
John
