Beth:   So Miguel, you’re off to New York?

Miguel:   Yeah, we’re leaving in a couple hours I think.

Beth:   That’s cool, are you excited?

Miguel:   I’m totally excited. I love the city. It’s been like, I don’t know, a year since I’ve been there too!

Beth:   Cool, do you have plans for your trip?

Miguel:   Well, no real plans yet, but uh, I hope to, like, go to the museums and hopefully go out to a club and dance or something.

Beth:   That’s cool. This is such an awesome time of the year to be in New York. All the windows are decorated and the, um, Rockefeller Square is awesome and there’s just so much festive stuff going on.

Miguel:   I didn’t even think about that. That’s gonna be cool to see the Christmas tree in Rockefeller Center. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that before.

Beth:   Oh, it’s so cool! And everyone is out ice-skating and one of my favorite things is how all the stores decorate their windows with these outrageous, uh, displays, very creative things going on.

Miguel:   That’s going to be fun, I… you know it’s weird… these trips, like, I haven’t even thought about what I’m going to do but, shopping will be awesome!

Beth:   Oh yeah, you should, uh, go up 5th Avenue and check out all the stores and I remember the last time I was there around Christmas everyone was just, you know, you couldn’t even walk through the sidewalks it’s just packed with shoppers from all over the world. It’s pretty cool.

Miguel:   Awesome.

Discussion

I too love Christmas time in the city! It just feels magical when you are walking with all of the other people taking in the sights and feeling the Christmas spirit. Beth told Miguel to check out the store window displays. Each year, the major department stores try to outdo their competitors by creating a better Christmas display. Sometimes they use age-old themes like Santa Claus or the Twelve Days of Christmas. It seems to me that more recently stores are trying to modernize their windows with images of current events. This year Macy’s has six windows titled, Muppets Take Manhattan[/def]!
In addition to the windows, it is a lot of fun to check out the Christmas trees that are larger than life. I still don’t know how they get all those ornaments on so neatly! I have trouble managing an eight-foot tree sometimes. Whatever they display, I love this time of year!
