2008 hasn’t been a bad year for Britney Spears. She hasn’t done anything too insane lately, like shaving her head or attacking the paparazzi with an umbrella. And unlike in 2007, she even made it through this year’s MTV Video Music Awards without forgetting the words to one of her own songs or appearing confused.
Brit’s new album, Circus, comes out today and it has already been getting some positive reviews. People seem reminded of when they first fell in love with Britney in the late ‘90s. Listen to Jason and Mason discuss the troubled pop princess.

Jason: So Britney Spears had some drama.
Mason: I think Britney Spears just is drama.
Jason: Right. But I got a confession to make. I still think she’s attractive. I mean, I’d still hook up with Britney Spears.
Mason: She’s back, man. She got on her game.
Jason: I know! Even…I don’t know…People were saying she looked terrible at the 2007 VMAs. But I didn’t think she looked that bad.
Mason: That was totally her comeback moment, too, right?
Jason: It was supposed to be, but her performance was bad. She looked like she didn’t even know where she was. But people were saying she was fat and all this stuff, and I thought she looked fine. But um…But now she really is back.
Mason: Yeah, it’s official?
Jason: It’s official.
Mason: In full effect?
Jason: Well she didn’t quite go out on a limb as far as she did last year at the VMAs, but this year she did a little skit at the beginning, to sort of set it up…
Mason: Right because the VMAs has really become a platform for people to redeem themselves, right? It’s where you fail and then you decide to make your grand re-entrance.
Jason: Yeah.
Mason: But so she’s got a new album coming out now, right? Circus?
Jason: Right, and the song off it is called “Womanizer,” and it’s pretty awesome. They have her voice in a robot effect.
Mason: Is she back…’Cause you know she was going down a weird electronic route, really over-produced stuff…Is it kind of in that vein? Or did she go in a different direction?
Jason: It’s not over-produced, I would say, but it definitely is in that vein, it’s highly electronic…But it’s done tastefully, I think. And it’s her first number one hit since “Baby One More Time.”

Discussion
Britney Spears has had a lot of problems in the past couple years with a divorce and several visits to the hospital. But even when she made a fool of herself at last year’s Video Music Awards, Jason still thought she looked pretty hot.
At this year’s VMAs, Britney did a much better job. She performed a funny skit and won several awards. Jason tells Mason that he likes Brit’s new album, Circus. It uses a lot of interesting voice effects and electronic music techniques.
Do you think this album will be a real comeback for Britney? Or is it too late for her to save her career?
