What’s the quickest way to get a million dollars? The lottery, of course. When people want to talk about an imaginary situation in which they’re rich, they often start, “If I won the lottery…”

But to win the lottery you have to play. And a lot of the time, you just win a few dollars. But the possibility of millions is always out there. Perhaps the fact that Ebaby! recently reached a million members is what inspires Jason to buy a scratcher at a convenience store. But Dale doesn’t like the odds and thinks it’s a bad idea.

3. Watch - Watch the video without reading the dialog.

Dialog

1. Listen and Read - Listen to the audio and read the dialog at the same time.

Dale:  You’re wasting your money, man.

Jason:  I don’t know, man. Like, sometimes I win, like, you know…five, ten bucks.

Dale:  That dollar could go somewhere else. I mean, gosh. The lottery is always just an investment.

Jason:  Three.

Dale:  I mean, it’s not an investment. I mean, it’s not an investment.

Jason:  Four! Five in a row! It’s a million bucks! I just won a million dollars!

Dale:  Whatever, whatever. No way!

Jason:  No, I’m totally serious. Look at it. Yeah. Can’t you see?

Dale:  Oh yeah! I knew you were gonna win, man!

Jason:  Yeah.

Dale:  I knew it! I knew it. I get half, by the way. I get half.

Jason:  What?

Dale:  Automatically. Automatically.

Jason:  Why would you get half?

Dale:  I’m your lucky charm. I’m your lucky charm. You wouldn’t have got that.

Jason:  You just told me not to buy it.

Dale:  You wouldn’t have got that if I wasn’t here. That’s it…

Jason:  I told you…

Dale:  Five-hundred thousand dollars.

Jason:  I was just pulling your leg. I didn’t win a million dollars. I just knew you’d do that after…

Dale:  You sure?

Jason:  I didn’t win anything.

Dale:  Loser.

Discussion

When Dale starts telling Jason that the lottery isn’t a good investment, Jason decides to play a trick on Dale and tell him that he won a million dollars. Dale immediately gets really excited and says that he should have half the money.

Then Jason tells Dale that he was lying. He didn’t win anything. He just thought Dale might feel differently about the lottery after imagining he won for a minute.

Is there a lottery in your country? Do you play? Why or why not?

I don't like any kind of gambling. I think it is highly addictive and I would not know how to stop spending money on it.

By the way the movie is really funny :D

Lotto mum jailed after fatal attack
28/10/2008
Lottery-winning mum Nicola Triplett was jailed for 28 months yesterday after a minor stab wound she inflicted on her ex-boyfriend ended up killing him.
Triplett, 30, won £166,000 in 2000 with lover Stephen Simpson but they split after the money was spent.
Simpson got custody of their daughter, who was there the night Triplett stabbed him in the buttock during a row about a phone at his home in Blackpool, Lancs.
Simpson, 40, should have recovered but later collapsed with septicaemia and died in March. Sentencing Triplett at Preston Crown Court, Judge Anthony Russell QC said: “This is a very tragic offence.” and a most unusual one.”

Mafia fears as punter wins £78m on lotteryBy Nick Pisa 24/10/2008 A lottery winner was last night £78.8million better off after scooping the jackpot in Italy – the bad news is they live in a Mafia stronghold. The ticket was bought in Catania, Sicily, and fears were swirling around the town that the mob will be trying to get their hands on the cash. Not surprisingly, the winner has not come forward to share his or her good news. But you can guarantee they will be expecting a Mafia boss to come calling to make them an "offer they can't refuse" – just like Don Vito Corleone, played by Marlon Brando, in the film Godfather.A lotto insider said: "Winners rarely go public in Italy and bearing in mind where this money was won I don't think there is much chance of the ticket holder making himself known.Advertisement – article continues below »"With that amount of cash they will make themselves open to kidnap or extortion from the Mafia."The jackpot is said to be the biggest lotto win in the world. It is not clear whether an individual won or a syndicate.Massive queues had formed outside shops selling tickets as lottery frenzy gripped Italy. But consumer groups warned the huge amount on offer had sparked a "dangerous betting fever" with some punters gambling away their life savings.

National News Briefs; Florida Couple Wins Lottery, Then Divorces
A Florida couple who won $5.4 million in the state lottery agreed on how to divide their jackpot this week and were promptly granted a divorce.
The couple, Herbert Savell, 51, and Suzanne Savell, 52, of Mount Dora, Fla., had been scheduled to begin a divorce trial on Thursday, ending an acrimonious five months since they drove to the state capital in June to claim their new fortune.
Instead, Mrs. Savell agreed to take 38 percent of the winnings and leave her husband 62 percent as part of a divorce settlement signed before Judge Mark Hill of Circuit Court, The Orlando Sentinel reported.
As she signed the agreement, Mrs. Savell said winning the lottery had been bad luck for the couple.
They bought a new $275,000 house, but within a month were arguing about who owned it.
And Mrs. Savell obtained an injunction for protection from her husband of three years.
’’It was like a blessing gone bad,’’ she said.
A version of this article appeared in print on Sunday, October 26, 1997, on section 1 page 21 of the New York edition.

In my country is one big lottery, you can win in this about one million dollars. I don't play in lottery, because it's too small chances to win. I prefer to bet football match, there is more probability, that I can win, but smaller money
