Way back in 1995, Toy Story became the first full-length film in history to be made entirely with computer animation. Since then, CGI films have taken off and become both common and popular.
Now the third and final movie in the Toy Story series has arrived. We made not be ready, but an era is ending and it’s time to move on.
Moving on is also the theme of Toy Story 3. In the film, the owner of Woody, Buzz, and the rest of the crew goes to college, leaving most of his old toys behind. But as Marni and Amy know, it isn’t always easy to let go.

Amy: Did you see that Toy Story 3 is out?
Marni: Yes, I did. And it’s kind of interesting, do you know anything about the story?
Amy: Well, I know that it’s wrapping up the trilogy, and it sounds actually like it might be a little sad, or at least tugging on the heartstrings.
Marni: I think so. I think it’s kind of an interesting theme. The boy in the story, the real boy, goes off to college and so he forgets about all his old toys.
Amy: Classic.
Marni: Yeah. And it actually got me thinking about all my old toys, like toys that I just loved as a child, and toys that were important to me, and some of them I don’t know what happened to them.
Amy: Do you still have any of them, though? Like is there one stuffed animal still on your bed or anything?
Marni: Not on my bed, but I still have a stuffed animal that I had from when I was very little. Papa Bear. He was a much bigger teddy bear, and when I was younger, I mean he was literally my size.
Amy: Oh yeah. Those are the best.
Marni: And I just…I have so many great memories of just being a kid and being super excited about it.
Amy: I have Purple Doggy. It was actually a pillow shaped like a doggy.
Marni: Nice.
Amy: And it was purple. And I slept on it actually until I was like 13.
Marni: Wow. And you still have it now?
Amy: I do. But I don’t sleep on it anymore.

Discussion
The final Toy Story movie just came out and Marni and Amy are interested in seeing it. In the movie, the boy who owns all the toys goes away to college and leaves most of his playthings behind. It sounds like a sad or sentimental story.
Hearing about the movie made Marni wonder what became of some of her old toys. Both she and Amy still have their favorite childhood toys, but they don’t know what heppened to most of them.
What was your favorite toy when you were little?
Do you have any of your old childhood toys?
