Lesson

Hi guys,

Yesterday I wrote day one of my Spoken English Course.  In case you missed it, check out the link and make sure to click the "like" button.  I just want to make sure people are reading these and I'm not just wasting my time.  I'd love to hear your comments on all these lessons as well and I really hope it helps.

I'm not sure if you know the show "2 and a half men" but I personally like it and think it's pretty funny.  I really like the early seasons.  Unfortunately, I just read a news article that said they will cancel the show because the main actor, Charlie Sheen, is causing all kinds of problems in his personal life. He apparently drinks too much and is too "opinionated".  If someone is "opinionated" it means that they have really strong opinions and share them with the world.  They will tell you if they love you or hate you.  I like opinionated people because I find them interesting, even if I don't agree with what they are saying.  But hey, that's me.

Anyway, that news article got me thinking about a phrase that I think would be quite useful for people to learn and use when you have the right chance.

Lighten Up:

If you hear someone tell someone else to "lighten up" it means that you are telling them to stop making such a big deal about things.  They should calm down and really stop caring.

I think a lot of people need to "lighten up".  If people "lightened up" a bit more than they wouldn't have canceled the show.  It's amazing how sensitive people are.  That's my opinion anyway.

Also, another little English tip is "my two cents".  It's the same thing as saying that's my opinion.

I could have ended my little story with: "Well, that's my two cents anyway".

I hope you learned at least something and please remember to support me by "liking" these lessons.  It gives me the motivation to keep on teaching!

Criz,

I thinks it's the same problem everywhere.  It's a combination of an old method focusing on grammar and test scores, and probably teachers that don't really know how to make the students have fun while learning.  Also, I think younger people don't really understand how important it is to learn English until they get a bit older.  Kids are always living in their own little bubble I think.  It's great that you are learning now though.

Hey white girl.  No problem.  Thanks for your "liking".  How is life in Bulgaria by the way?  I don't hear too much about it but I know you guys seem to win a lot of medals in the olympics.

Hey Criz,

Your English seems pretty good to me.  Most of the "non English speaking world" I think realizes they need English after high school.  The good news is that there will be a lot of job opportunities for the people who actually work hard and learn English well.

Thanks Criz.

How much of the lesson would you say you understand?  Do you use a dictionary or just read it straight trough?  I see you are from Indonesia.  How is the English education there?  I'm very interested in your country and I'd like to travel there one day when I have time.
