Lesson
Hi guys,
I'm back again. My hours are a bit weird right now. I've been in a habit of staying up way too late and then sleeping in. I'm the kind of person who easily gets into these bad habits and I promised myself that I'll start waking up tomorrow at a "normal time".
Anyway, enough about me. I really want to teach a cool phrase I was thinking about today when I saw an TV advertisement for a really stupid product.
If someone is selling "garbage" or a product that doesn't work as well as they promise, we call them a "snake oil salesman".
I'm not sure about the history of this phrase. Maybe people used to sell snake oil in the past and promise it would cure some disease or something. Anyway, the point is, it doesn't really matter why it has that name. You just need to know that a "snake oil salesman" is someone selling something that is fake or not nearly as good as they promised.
Many of the people you see on TV late at night selling some product that promises to help a person lose a lot of weight with no exercise is a kind of "snake oil salesman". I hate snake oil salesmen and wished this world was full of honest people trying to make high quality stuff.
