What does a clothing accessory have to do with how much experience you have? Not much, unless you’re talking about the expression under one’s belt. When you have something under your belt, it is a part of your past experience.

Actor Leonardo DiCaprio has a lot of acting experience under his belt. But he has almost no experience in politics. So for his role as a politician in the new movie J. Edgar, he had to pretend to have a lot more political experience under his belt than he really has.

It sounds tough, but that’s what an actor’s job is all about. They always have to pretend to be people they’re not, and act like they have experiences under their belts that they’ve never actually had.

What experiences do you have under your belt? What would you like to have under your belt in the next 10 years?
