Some people dread Valentine’s Day. Others love it. Whether you love or hate the couples’ holiday might have something to do with whether or not you’re in a relationship. But even some happy couples decide not to make a big deal out of V-Day. They see it as more of a commercial holiday, and prefer to celebrate their love on their own schedule. Hear how Jason and Amy plan to spend Valentine’s Day with their sweeties this year.

Amy:  Do you have any Valentine’s Day plans, Jason?

Jason:  Yes, but they’re very un-Valentine’s Day.

Amy:  Oh really?

Jason:  Yes. My girlfriend and I are going to a basketball game, because last year, we went all out and did an actual Valentine’s Day experience, and it was kind of a disaster.

Amy:  Oh no, why?

Jason:  Well, we went to this place where there was a lounge singer, and it was like a dinner theater experience, and they greeted you with champagne and roses right when you walk in, and they take your photo, and you get your own table.

Amy:  That sounds kinda fun. Kinda cheesy-fun.

Jason:  At first it was. But the performer was really bad. And it was really expensive, and the singing was bad, and we couldn’t even talk. And at the end we didn’t feel romantic at all.

Amy:  That’s the thing about Valentine’s Day that is kind of annoying. So many restaurants, if you want to go out to dinner with your sweetie, they charge so much more than what they would normally charge. And it can end up just being…You just feel kind of like you wasted money, or you bought into this really commercial holiday.

Jason:  That was exactly how I felt. So this year, I said, “You know what? Remember that disaster last year? Let’s just not participate in Valentine’s Day.”

Amy:  And your girlfriend was OK with that plan?

Jason:  Yeah.

Amy:  That’s good.

Amy asks Jason about his Valentine’s Day plans. He explains that he and his girlfriend are going to a basketball game on Valentine’s Day. They tried to do something more romantic last year, but it turned into an expensive disaster.

On Valentine’s Day, many restaurants raise their prices. Amy agrees that going out on Valentine’s Day can be expensive and annoying. She thinks that Valentine’s Day is mostly a commercial holiday.

What are your Valentine’s Day plans? Do you think Valentine’s Day is too commercial?

Valentine Day is always the day of commercial. Just like festive season.

When there is a celebration, there will be a price.

It makes the price of chocolates going 3x higher in my country for two weeks! It happens in “Love Day”, why ?? :” ( .. The chocolate, flowers etc need to be gained free to express love.

Women like this kind of things more than we could imagine… If you don’t write something, some one else could do it… You must be trying to conquer her heart every day…

If something is not going well, buy The Kama Sutra book, and read it together and practice!!! Not everything must be a expensive gift!

People in the business take advantage of this event for sure, now it’s up the people whether they want to spend V Day in fancy way or just simple and yet romantic. Sure, celebrating V Day is a good idea if you can celebrate it with your loved one but if not just try to enjoy that day by keeping busy yourself so you won’t feel too bad :P

I hate Valentine’s day when I am single, I can’t bear all the lovers holding the rose and all the cinemas full of the lovers, all the restaurants are so expensive——you can’t order what you like as usual, they just provide the Valentine’s day special package!

I love Valentine’s day when I pursued a girl, it is a best chance to show how I love her, and the love message transferred in such a day is accurate and effective. It is easy to capture her heart.

I hate Valentine’s day again when I married. My wife keep ask for gifts, so frankly and directly. I admit that romance is really need in daily life, but in this day, all romance you can give just need the money.

That is the main reason why the commercial stores are so enthusiastic in Valentine’s day’s promotion. They expect your money in your pocket.

Hope what I said will not be criticized by most female. Actually, I buy gifts to my wife every anniversary days, including the day we met, the day we registered, the day we holding the wedding, birthday, Christmas, and the Valentine’s day! Now you know my pain.

Is it commercial or not? Leave it to the merchants. It’s just a good opportunity to selling more products, so you may say it’s commercial. But it is you to decide whether fall into their trap or not, at least they offer various kinds of romantic atmosphere for you. Anyway, you could design your own V-day which is very unique and especially for you and your sweetie.

I’m regret that i never had a special V-day with my ex, just simply had a dinner together or go to cinema, the things everyone else do.

For the day this year, i planned to go to Avril’s concert alone, just on the V-day, but at last i changed my mind to have a western style dinner with my roomate, without caring about the price, just give ourselves a luxury night. After all, two people are better than one.
