Most students look forward to the summer. Not only is the weather good, but classes are over. Summer offers a break from school and a chance to relax.

But not if you decide to do summer school. Crazy as it may sound, plenty of people choose to take classes in the summer. They might want to try to graduate early, or catch up on a class they missed during the regular year. Students who fail a class are sometimes forced to do summer school.

Amy is a teacher. Find out if she’ll be in the classroom this summer, as she and Jason discuss summer school.

Dialog

Amy

Jason

Amy: I’m pretty excited. I’m not teaching summer school this year.

Jason: Oh, really? Well, I can imagine that would make for a more enjoyable summer. But, I don’t know, summer school’s gotta be pretty cool, right?

Amy: You know, in some ways it’s not that bad. You kind of figure you can have a little bit more of a laid back attitude. Everyone’s there during their summer. You can’t be too strict. You get to kinda treat it like half school, half vacation.

Jason: But the pace is a little faster, right? It’s kind of intense. You have to do a lot in a short period of time.

Amy: Yeah. Usually 10 weeks is squeezed into four weeks, or something like that. So it is, it’s longer days. And sometimes I guess students have to take summer school classes to kind of catch up with things that they’ve maybe missed during the year. Or the classic is, like, you fail a class during the regular year, and then you have to take it again. So that’s not fun for anybody.

Jason: The one time I took it I had a lot of fun.

Amy: Oh really?

Jason: It was because my favorite professor was leaving after that summer. So I took one more class from him, and there were only five people in the class.

Amy: Nice.

Jason: And he came over to our house for dinner and stuff, so it was really fun.

Amy is a teacher, and she often teaches during the summer. But this year, she is not teaching summer school. She is taking the summer off.

Even though she is happy to have the summer off, Amy doesn’t mind teaching summer school. She likes the laid back atmosphere of summer classes. However, as Jason points out, the pace is usually fast in summer school, because you have to get a lot done in a short amount of time.

Sometimes students are forced to take summer school if they fail a class during the regular year. But other times, students choose to take summer classes. Jason had a great experience taking a summer class from a professor he really liked.

Im ateacher too ,& I used to teach during the summer,but now im off.U know I enjoy my vacation & feel happy,so maybe I willbe off all over my life in the summer.I think the advantage of taking classes during the summer is to learn more & more,but on the other hand u dont enjoy ur vacation alot.I hope the success to those who take classes during the summer.

I’m having summer classes right now. I really want to graduate earlier and I know I have to work hard for it. Summer school is kinda fun because the amount of the students in class is not as many as the regular class. It’s kinda the professor’s care focuses on a few of us. I don’t see any disvantages, maybe for those who love to have vacations will miss a lot opportunity to get out and play out there. But since capricorn is kinda boring person and doesn’t really like to go out, it’s fine with me. I can go out another day or on weekend, just take short walk woth my family or friends maybe.

Actually when I was a student I Was suffer from The english Language , I wasn’t have money In order to talking summer classes , when I was finished my school I was going with my uncle for work , two years Ago I decided to learn English depend on myself And my closer friend I recognized about her on english baby , Really summer school is very enjoyable thing to everyone over the world

I Agree with any opinion contribute in Improve skills of children specially in the basic period , we are looking to enhancement our education but that’s need to choose a good teachers and an specific specifications

Some of my students who didn’t go out of city for holidays take lessons in summer. I think, it’s a total advantage because there aren’t any other classes, and student’s mind is ready to accept much more information. If a student learns one subject he likes, it’s just for pleasure. But ONLY ONE! :)

No doubt, they need a rest from studying. However my students love English so much that they have a rest while learning English.:)

when ı was at school ı used to have summer school because ı was layz student. summer school is very bad, your friends are on holiday, they are swimming or travelling but you!! still studying :((

I’m going to summer school in England..Although I have regularly graduated this year, Im going there in order to improve my English. I will be stayed for two weeks and one week I’ll be in London as a tourist :) I dont think summer school is boring, because it is a opportunity to meet people from different countries. I think it’s very interesting and even better it’s educative :))

Actually yes i have done a summer school once a few years ago and i remember so clearly that i was so upset and sad because i failed that subject for the first time but later i considred this experience is very good thing in my life cause i kind of promised myself not to repeat this failure ever again and since then i did the best i can and i haven’t failed again so i learned something don’t hate the bad things that happen to you, they might be the reason to be better

This year i have very long holiday ( 4 months ) because i pass matura’s exam and i graduated grammar school.. i have a lot of free time and i would like go to the holiday school – language school, unfortunately in my town not have languages school in vacation and i must leran english myself… but i think the summer school for students who failed exam or have problems with study is very big chance.. of course i understand a techares who must spend time with students and teach, becuase a holiday is for relax, but they are must work…

i have taken summer classes 2 times, it was intresting becuse we finished faster usually summer classes 6 weeks, and the most important thing that in summer classes teachers dont give us alot of homework XD, And i prefer taking easy classes in summer classes cause i dont want bother myself with too much studying in the summer break.
