As fun as it is to travel and see new places, it can also be stressful. Finding the perfect hotel is one way to cut down on the stress. It’s nice to have a comfortable room to come home to at the end of a long day of sightseeing.

But the perfect hotel often doesn’t come at the perfect price. In fact, paying for a place to sleep can destroy your travel budget if you aren’t careful. Find out what Mason and Jason look for in a hotel.

1. Listen and Read - Listen to the audio and read the dialog at the same time.

Mason:  You travel every now and again, right, for your band, right, Jason?

Jason:  Yeah, and other things. English, baby!, etc.

Mason:  Where do you find you stay most of the time?

Jason:  It’s really random. Sometimes I stay in the cheapest place, like if it’s in a major city, especially, I’ll end up staying, like in Los Angeles, in some out-of-the-way neighborhood.

Mason:  So I’ve done things both ways, like I’ve gotten to go on business travel where I stay at super nice places ‘cause I’m not paying for it. But then if I’m traveling, we stay in hostels, still. But we want the private room, you know, it’s not like total $15 for a bunk bed kind of thing.

Jason:  Shared bathroom?

Mason:  Shared bathroom, for sure. But it’s also like, I’m not paying to go on vacation to stay in my hotel. I’m paying to just be somewhere.

Jason:  Right. Although occasionally you do find a hotel on vacation that might be worth paying for. Like there was this hotel in Spain that was in this old house, and I was like, “Let’s stay there.” And it was totally worth it, just to feel like you were in the 19th century in the Spanish countryside.

Mason:  Yeah. So what other things do you think are worth splurging on when it comes to your hotels?

Jason:  Possibly location. It might be worth it to stay in the middle of town. And you can’t have a bed that’s too bad. Recently, staying at a hotel made me realize I need a new bed at my house. I was just like, “This is more comfortable than home!”

Mason asks Jason where he likes to stay when he travels. Jason says that he stays in different places depending on where he goes. When he visits big cities like Los Angeles, he typically stays in the cheapest place he can find, because big cities are often expensive.

When Mason travels for business, he gets to stay in nice hotels. But when he travels on his own, he typically stays in a cheap hotel or hostel. He likes to get a private room, but he doesn’t mind sharing a bathroom. He thinks that it doesn’t matter very much where he stays, because he doesn’t spend a lot of time in his hotel room when he is on vacation.

Jason says that the most important thing to him when looking for a hotel is its location. He also likes hotels with historic atmosphere.

Where do you usually stay when you travel? Describe your idea of the perfect hotel.

The important thing for me when I go somewhere in my vacation is air conditioning when it is summer and heating when it is winter, other things do not matter for me because as it was told by Mason I spend most of my vacation time out of hotel.

i think any hotel is a good hotel as long as it’s clear and tidy , and i had a good trip in the daytime and u have the ppl u care around you , like with family ,lover or friends , and u are in a good mood . so many times it’s not about the hotel itself but your feelings about it .

I always like sharing rooms with 3-5 friends when travelling because I love chatting, gathering to eat or do something exciting, funny.

It doesn’t matter whelther it is hotel or hostel, providing that we have enough space and water.

Once i booked a hotel in Amsterdam in the middle of the city, with all amenities. I don’t know how many stars it had. I didn’t have  any choice to pick a starry one:) The woman booked me at the airport at a reasonable price and I was more than happy. Well it was so reasonable that somebody was playing soccer behind my door the whole night! I didn’t open the door. No way, to  confront someone who plays soccer at night:) The next night was ok, they gave up :) But the night life was hectic. Somebody was shouting, screaming, laughing, singing, running, yelling something in the unknown language. I couldn’t sleep :)  In the morning, it was unusual quiet :)  a good breakfast—some coffee, eggs, croissant and orange juice. Life in Amsterdam is very interesting :)

I liked the hotels in  Vienna, Holiday Inn. Very nice. Especially the morning buffet :) Big variety of fruit, yogurt, coffee and you name it. You feel like a king going down the elevator and not lifting a finger start gorging on cereal and all of those yummies.

Well, a good hotel is very important, with a good view, with some bar. Life is fantastic with them. :)

While travelling I prefer to stay in a not so expensive hotel, because it is not the luxe that counts. In the end you spend just a night over there. But nevertheless it must be clean and in a calm place. I agree with Jason that location is very important. You don’t want to stay too far from the center of the city and all the places of interests. Though it may depend if you are visiting several cities at on time.

I wanna find a hotel for relaxing, So i have to take a hotel far of the beach or center city. it is important for me, After that i check cost of hotel,It has to be cheap and not cheapest because in the day i’ll be out side of hotel, And in the midnight i want to come back the hotel,I went to see new sightseeing, Don’t stay all time in the hotel.

Usually I stay at hotels or privat apartaments . the most important things for me a comfortable room with cozy bed(it is mean a lot) a good room service, a beautiful area and a good view on the sea or park or another pretty place like Eiffel Tower, and i forgot the main thing it is meal , if i am hungry ,i will angry!!!so everything else will seem bad while i am not eating any meal( any tasty meal !!!)

i like to travel on trips and tours alot. its a great fun to stay outside of your house for some days at some fine hotel, whether it would be an avreage hotel, thing is it should be very neat clean and peacefull. if you are going for holidays and staying there a month or more then it should be luxerious and cozy with all the great services we can have like a wide room with a huge window to view outside, nice atmosphere inside and outside the room, a wide washroom wiped always, a quick room service, a refregirator with lots of choclates, juices and coal drinks, cozy bed for a sweet slumber and some great movies to watch. no one can imagin the joy we can have on vactions now.:)

I prefer the private room if I’m traveling~

02:29 PM Aug 24 2012 |

if i am in a beach city or my budget is not too much, often i stay inn, but if it is a big travel i prefer good hotels with pool, bathtube, great breakfast and large bed in the middle of town or in front of the beach

02:17 PM Aug 24 2012 |

When I travel for a long time I prefer camping, it’s cheap and it’s important for a few months. But for less of a week it’s easy now to find some cheap hotels in big cities with internet. And we have some money let for the most important.

02:11 PM Aug 24 2012 |

I think the people who travel a lot definitely appreciate their houses more than the others, the perfect hotel for me has to be cheap cause when i travel i already spend a lot on going sightseeings and getting to know new places which is more important for me and i don’t mind staying in a small room i prefer these rooms they are cozier more than the huge cold rooms and if the staff is nice and kind i wouldn’t ask more.
