What do you think about when you look at the moon? For some people, it’s a religious symbol. Others learned lunar poems when they were kids. Still other people use the moon to tell seasons or predict the weather.

Amazingly, the moon is something that brings the world together. People around the globe all see the same moon. It’s also something that makes countries compete against each other, like when the US and Russia had the “space race” to see who would make it to the moon first.

To tell the truth, the moon is pretty far away. It’s about 238,900 miles (384,400 km) from Earth. But astronauts have made the trip successfully in space shuttles since 1969. The moon is definitely interesting, but it’s quite expensive to travel there. Living there would require even more excessive costs. Everything would have to be imported from Earth. That’s a long trip!

Discover who’s dreaming about living on the moon in this English lesson.

Jeff:  Last night I was looking at the sky, and I was thinking, “How cool would it be to live on the moon?” People have been talking about it for the last century. I can’t wait to go. I hope it happens.

Mason:  Really? It kind of feels a little bit excessive. The whole idea of a lunar colony. I mean, space shuttles are not cheap.

Jeff:  Well, it’s true. That’s why they’re not paying for them anymore, but I wish they would start again. You know I’ve always wanted to be an astronaut, but not just an astronaut.

Mason:  You want to be a space pioneer?

Jeff:  Yeah.

Mason:  Low gravity, I get it. That seems kind of cool. But how is it in any way practical to think that we could justify all the expense and complexity? You’d have to build domes that hold in the air. Just think of how many trips you’d need to make back and forth to get the raw materials!

Jeff:  Humans have always wanted to explore new territories. I think it’s part of our nature. Plus, it could be a fresh start.

Jeff is interested in the moon. In fact, he’d like to move there.

Mason thinks some things on the moon would be cool, like low gravity, but overall he’s too practical to dream about living in a lunar colony. Transporting building materials would cost too much and take too many trips between Earth and the moon.

For Jeff, it’s worth dreaming about. He thinks humans always want to explore new places. He hopes he’ll get the chance to have a fresh start on the moon.

Would you like to live on the moon? Where would you choose to make a fresh start?

i’m not interested in…i think we could use all thoses expenses from searches of this kind of subject like moon to help people that have real basic problems: famine, lack of water..on the other hand, they could discover something new in the moon that might help those same persons to survive…but it’s so unlikely.

Well, I wouldn’t like to live on the moon coz I swear it’d be so scary to be there.
There’re not plants, animals, few humans other than those who wants to live on the moon. Almost nothing on the satellite(even air doesn’t exist!)
It’s so romantic to dream of living there, though.
And I’d make a fresh start in the heaven:)
We can’t escape from the reality and ourselves!!

I got grounded to the earth , my sole interest in  stars  and planets are of admiration  of the beauty above us and each night  is presented to our eyes  as a gift from God. Getting back to the main subject . I have been looking on “you tube ” high-resolution  pictures of the dark side of the moon , and to my surprise  it shows  building structures  of alien origen. I mention this because if somebody  entertains the idea of colonizing  the moon ,would have first to ask for permission to set a foot on the moon  to whatever  alien inhabitants  have first  set up a base on it     hehehehehe!!!!

It sounds kind of interesting to go to the moon but for me it doesn’t make sense living there because one can not have an independent life there, you should take whatever you need from the earth!!!

For me a new decision can be a fresh start, wherever I be!!!

The Earth is good for me. The climate is not so friendly on the Moon to live there. Am I careful or chicken hearted? I don’t know. You can decide it….

Neil Alden Armstrong was an American astronaut and the first person to walk on the Moon. Apollo 11 was the spaceflight that landed the first humans on the Moon, Americans Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, on July 20, 1969, at 20:18 UTC. Armstrong became the first to step onto the lunar surface six hours later on July 21 at 02:56 UTC. Armstrong spent about two and a half hours outside the spacecraft, Aldrin slightly less, and together they collected 47.5 pounds (21.5 kg) of lunar material for return to Earth.

Armstrong claims to have said “That’s one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind” when he first set foot on the lunar surface.

Well, living on the moon, I think it’s for the bravest. After watching the movie Gravity with Alexandra Bulloch starring in it, I totally freaked out of space. The movie is a good simulation  watched in 3 D to feel like what the space life is. It’s very scary. Dark, cold and lonely plus all those space debries that fly with a great speed in the space. So, it’s not for the faint-hearted, just only for Sandra Bullock, Jeff and this guy :) But i love looking on the starry night sky and my respect to all great minds who contributed to space exploration.

Has anyone spotted ISON? Looks like it got burnt :(
