In some countries, you cannot find clean drinking water easily. But in the US, it’s everywhere! It’s easy to buy a water bottle wherever you are: at the store, at the gas station, or even at school. There’s no reason to be thirsty!

However, buying water bottles isn’t always the best choice. If you buy one water bottle every day, that’s seven bottles in a week, thirty in a month, and over 500 in a year! And all of that plastic gets thrown into landfills. What a waste!

Instead, many people choose to get a reusable water bottle. It’s easy to fill up, and you won’t be throwing away so much plastic. It’s a little thing, but it makes a big difference for the environment.

Learn who doesn’t like buying water bottles (and who does) in this English lesson about drinking water.

Lily:  Rafa, can you hold on for a second? I need to fill up my water bottle really quickly.

Rafael:  I was actually going to get my own water. I’m going to buy it at that vending machine.

Lily:  What? You actually buy plastic water bottles? That’s really bad for the environment.

Rafael:  Well, why? I mean, isn’t yours plastic?

Lily:  Yeah, but mine is reusable. Because you’re not constantly buying new plastic bottles, they don’t get thrown into landfills and then end up choking whales to death. So it’s more environmentally friendly.

Rafael:  I guess so, but it’s also a huge pain in the neck.

Lily:  Why? It’s not that bad.

Rafael:  I don’t know. You just have to haul it with you all over the place. You have to tote it around. I’d rather just buy it when I’m thirsty and not worry about it when I’m not.

Lily:  You’re everything that’s wrong with the world today.

Lily asks Rafael to wait for her while she fills up her water bottle. Rafael says he’s thirsty, too, but he wants to buy a water bottle from the vending machine.

Lily is surprised that Rafael actually buys plastic water bottles. She thinks that it’s bad for the environment and says that it’s better to have a reusable water bottle. Lily points out that old plastic water bottles get thrown into landfills. And all that trash can even hurt animals.

Rafael agrees with Lily, but for him, it’s just too much work to carry a reusable water bottle with him everywhere. He doesn’t want to tote around a bottle. If he’s thirsty, he’ll buy a water bottle. Otherwise, he doesn’t want to worry about it.

Do you have a reusable water bottle? Is it a pain in the neck to carry a water bottle with you?

We try not to use water bottles from vendors . We carry water bottles with us when we go to travel. We use filtered water. We fill it in bottles meant for it (rigid fridge bottles). These can be used for longer times.

But you know, now there are also unfair people in this business as long as my locality goes. We must purchase unsealed water bottles of reputed firm/company in case of need. At that time we must pay attention to genuinity of standard company label on it. Because as I earlier said, there are some peoples who want to make profit at the risk of end users. So beware while buying it from unknown person.

Also I feel bad , my some fellow instead of crashing the water bottle after its use, retain it for longer time..They store water in it and drink it repateadly. This is a very bad for one’s health ,as on bottle it is clearly mentioned to crush it after use.

You know the water bottle came into existance to larger scale a decade ago. Till that time , we mostly relied on metal water glasses.

I agree on that part, carrying a water bottle with you wherever you go is a total pain in the neck. But consedering our environment, reusable water bottle is much better. This is the least we can do to help protect our environment.

I think It’s easier to tote for women because they can carry a reusable glass or water bottle in their  bags  , but about men it’s really pain in the neck. The best way is to wrap it in the reusable packing.

It is easier said than done to carry the reusable water bottle all over the place every day. I’ve lost several reusable water bottels before. I’d rather buy water bottles if necessay..^^ What about the environment? I have no idea…LOL

It`s a pain in the neck for the people whose salary is not much enough to  buy water bottle constantly.

I think that there are some countries or areas where there are no environmental resources for water. In this case we are obliged to buy water bottles not every day but every time we feel thirsty.

I have a reusable water bottle. I find it so much easier than to BUY water bottles every day or every other day. I think having 1 water bottle, which you obviously refill everyday with fresh water, is so much better than to spend out money to buy water that you can just refill in the bathroom for example.

we actually buy 5 gallons of water which is rather huge and pump it like fountain and drink water by using it .moreover those gallons are reusable many times as long as they’re being filled hygienically .

I think it’s necissary for Rafa to change now. He’s a bit  lazy, isn’t it? totally ignores those things that really matter to the surroundings. He might be a bad example for his kids. He have to learn from Lily anyway. I hope oneday we can drink water without bottle kkk^^ its a pain in my neck as well, but everyone in this world has to take the responsibility.

Rafa, i don´t get it.  We don´t have problems toting around our head phones and cells and when  it  comes to  be environmentally friendly ( knowing that  used plastic bottles  are choking up  to death  the marine life )and yet  we don´t care ?. Drinking and potable water nowadays  is a commodity  ,so expensive it is . i like what Lily  is doing , not only she is helping  our planet ,she is also saving money ,treated water is much cheaper than buying it  from a vending machine or store .

There are people like Rafe in every society – people who make choice thinking only about personal convenience. That’s why we have environmental problems as Lily says. The thing is that we have an easy solution to change the behaviors of selfish people – tax on the bottle.  This reminds them that your thrown away bottle has a cost to you as well as to the society. Of course, selfish people try to escape such taxes. That’s why they try to spread the impression that taxes are always wastefully spent by government.

In India, water bottles availabe on every beverages stores and even in some state small pauche of water of 150ml also available. In india, in many citites pure water for all , from governement is not available so people use purchase plastic bottle from strore or they carry reusable water bottle. Professinal persons do not carry bottle they use to just purchase bottle.People know that that ultimately cause enviroment problem, but very few people take care about.

Well for me, i carry my own water bottles everywhere. I dont like to tote it around too like rafael but i also dont want to waste money and constantly buying a new one. Refill my water bottle at vending machines cost only 20 cents for one litre. This is why i always carry my backpack everywhere.
