Gary: Brian?
Brian: Gary.
Gary: I was just downstairs, and I was in the comic shop, and I signed up for all new Spider-Man comics.
Brian: Oh, yeah? Are you going to go see the new movie?
Gary: You know, I don’t know. I’m a little ambivalent with this new version.
Brian: Andrew Garfield. You weren’t a big fan?
Gary: Oh man, Tobey Maguire was so good. He did justice to the character.
Brian: Really? I’m not a fan of the inconsistency in that they relaunched it only a year after the last one.
Gary: And then they completely changed the character history.
Brian: Yeah. For me, I don’t have a problem with any of the actors. For me, it’s the writing. I grew up on the comics, and I miss having the voice over. I kind of feel a good Spider-Man movie needs a voice over, because you want to know what he’s thinking.
Gary: Absolutely. There was way too much action in this version, whereas in the earlier one, we actually got to see Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker.
Brian: I can see that. I do think that this one had a little more comedy, and the CGI looked better because I feel like it was just the turn of computer graphics.
Gary: Because it’s a few years later, so it’s a little better.
Brian: Exactly. But I will probably go see it.
Gary: Tell me how it is.
Brian: All right.

Discussion
Brian and Gary are talking about the new Spider-Man movie. They’re both big fans of the superhero. Gary is excited because he just signed up for the new Spider-Man comic books, but when Brian asks if he’s going to see the new movie, Gary tells him he’s just not sure.
Gary thinks the old Spider-Man movie starring Tobey Maguire was the best. He liked seeing the character and hearing what Spider-Man was thinking by a voice over. For him, the last version of Spider-Man had too much action and not enough time to learn who the characters really were.
Brian, on the other hand, is still going to see the new Spider-Man movie in film. He’s interested in the computer graphics and special effects. While he does miss some parts of the old movie and comics, he’s still excited to see what this superhero sequel has to offer.
Will Andrew Garfield do justice to the character of Spider-Man? Are you going to see this movie at the cinema?
